The creation and unveiling of wax figures is one of many ways celebrities are honored. These life-like wax replicas have recently become quite trendy among pop culture stars and fans. Whenever a new celebrity wax figure is announced, it often draws controversies from fans due to the focus on detail. Fans are always keen on knowing how accurate the art pieces are, and this often comes with mixed feelings.

On July 13, 2023, the Panoptikum Museum in Hamburg, Germany, revealed a new wax figure in honor of British singer Ed Sheeran. After the news got out, fans shared their thoughts and mixed feelings.

Ed Sheeran earned this wax figure recognition thanks to his unique musical talent that captured millions of fans worldwide. Deeply entrenched in pop, folk pop, and soft rock, Ed Sheeran's soulful music has earned him several accolades, including eight Billboard awards, seven Brits, and four Grammys.

The West Yorkshire native's earliest knowledge of making music was at 11. Sheeran started playing the guitar as a preteen. Being from a musical family with a composer dad also helped him fuel his passion for the art of music. Some of his influences in childhood include hip-hop and Irish folk music.

Sheeran started pursuing his music dreams as a 16-year-old when he left his hometown and moved to London. Jamies Foxx discovered him in London, and in 2011, the singer released his debut album, "+." Sheeran has since released six studio albums with several chart-topping songs.

Besides music, the "Perfect" crooner is passionate about philanthropy. Sheeran has been involved in scores of initiatives. One of the causes dearest to the heart is helping vulnerable kids.

The "Thinking Out Loud" singer has been the longest supporter of the East Anglia Children's Hospices. His wax statue at the Panoptikum is one of many recognitions Sheeran has received for his deeds over the years.

Established in 1879, the Panoptikum Museum is the oldest wax museum in Germany that houses celebrity wax sculptures. It is one of several museums worldwide that unveils notable figures from time to time.

The museum houses several celebrity replicas, including Queen Elizabeth II, Julia RobertsBarack ObamaHarry Potter, and Madonna. The museum's latest addition is Ed Sheeran's ultra-modern image made by Berlin-based professional artist Lisa Büscher.

The artwork, exhibited among some figures surrounding a railing, stands upright in Sheeran's signature style. The figure bore the "Shape of You" singer's subtle smile, jawline ginger beard, and hooded blue eyes.

Büscher detailed the life-like structure down to the few fine lines around his eyes. The replica bore an uncanny resemblance to the singer and was dressed in an Ed-Sheeran casual signature style. The art piece was dressed in a black T-shirt worn over a fitted white long-sleeve top. The sleeves were rolled up to show off the replica of Sheeran's arm tattoos.

The wax figure also sported a pair of baggy jeans and a pair of red-and-black high-top sneakers. The sculpture stood legs apart with one hand in one pocket while the other held on to the strings of a small Martin guitar slung over the other shoulder. Sheeran's copy image also rocked a black watch and a black wristband.

Büscher opened up on how she achieved the overall essence of Sheeran's statue as she noted her meticulous approach. According to Mirror, she stated that the artist's many tattoos were the most "intricate and time-consuming feature of the project."

She also made it known that using the slippy wax for the creation was tricky. Büscher revealed that one of her top concerns was the heatwave that hit Germany a few days before the unveiling and how it could affect the wax statue.

She noted that it made transportation to Hamburg difficult because she was worried about how the heat could possibly make it melt. The sculptor mentioned that she felt a deep relief when it arrived at the Panoptikum in excellent condition.

The statue debuted on several platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, with fans sharing their opinions and mixed feelings. One Instagram user laughingly called it "Ed Sheeran ordered on wish," showing that they felt the wax model was a less authentic version.

Another person shared clapping hands emojis to show their approval. On Twitter, one internet user stated, "There's a new Ed Sheeran wax figure in Germany and well…"

The Panoptikum figure is one of several pieces celebrating Sheeran's impressive career. In 2015, Madame Tussauds debuted a wax figure of him in New York. The singer had paid a visit to the museum at the time, where he admitted that the monument accurately highlighted his features.

He was honored with another sculpture in 2018, and the piece debuted at Lady Dinah's Cat Emporium in London. That statue was even more endearing as wax versions of his beloved cats were also featured.
