Newborn Passes Away After Being Left Behind In Daycare Van For 5 Hours
Aug 16, 2019 by apost team
When we drop our children off at daycare or school, we expect that they'll be safe. In fact, we as parents don't tolerate anything less when it comes to our beloved children. A daycare might not be perfect, but it has to be a safe and secure place for our little ones.
In May of 2019, four-month-old baby girl Brooklyn was picked up for daycare in the company's van by co-owner Darryl Ewing. Darryl owned Ewing’s Love and Hope Daycare Center with his wife Glorylan in Jacksonville, Florida.
While investigators are still trying to figure out just what went wrong, what they know so far is that Brooklyn was picked up at 8:25 AM. At around 1:00 PM, Glorylan realized that Brooklyn had never been properly checked in per the facility's procedure. That's when the negligent daycare owners realized that Brooklyn was still in the van, which was parked outside, reports Newsone.

While this might have just been a traumatizing event had it happened anywhere else, it tragically occurred in Florida, where temperatures in May can be positively scorching. On that day, the weather had shot up to more than degrees. Poor baby Brooklyn never stood a chance. The Ewings called the police, but it was too late. Brooklyn was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Brooklyn is survived by her two siblings, who were in the same van that day but somehow made it inside the daycare when their little sister didn't. She's also survived by her mother, Lancia, who has been absolutely devastated by her daughter's passing.
The tragedy has left our city outraged and full of sorrow," Lancia wrote in the GoFundMe she created to raise money for Brooklyn's funeral expenses. "My family is in shambles and [we have] so many unanswered questions."
Soon after news broke of this horrific incident, the public became aware of the fact that Glorylan was found guilty of child abuse in 2017. The outraged citizens of Jacksonville are now demanding answers from their city officials as to why she was ever granted a license to open a facility for children.
The public has also been made aware of the fact that while the Ewings were authorized to operate a daycare, they did not have the appropriate permit required to transport children to and from their facility.
"It's a complete outrage!" one concerned Floridian wrote on social media.
According to WJXT News, Darryl was charged with child neglect and is waiting for his arraignment.
