“NCIS” is a television series that follows a fictional team of special agents, their work and their personal lives. The show combines elements of military dramas and police procedural genres, making for an extremely impactful show that has gone on to become a fan favorite and phenomenon. “NCIS” first aired back in Sept. 2003 and has since gone into broadcast syndication as one of the longest-running scripted non-animated primetime TV series.

With such an impactful show, it’s no surprise that many of its main actors have gone on to have fulfilling careers and have garnered plenty of media attention. Some of the main stars over the years have included Mark Harmon, Pauley Perrette, Cote de Pablo, Sean Murray and many more. There have also been several spin-off series from “NCIS.”

Murray first appeared on the series in the first season in a recurring role. By the second season, he was bumped up to the main cast and has remained in a starring role ever since. While many people recognize Murray for his work on “NCIS,” the actor has a pretty impressive repertoire under his belt. Some of his other works include the Halloween film “Hocus Pocus” and the drama series “JAG.”

He first started out when he was relatively young and has continued to find work in the industry ever since. Along with a successful career, Murray has also started his own family and has built a great fortune for himself. Read on to find out more about this actor’s life, career and everything in between.

Murray was born on Nov. 15, 1977, in the Bethesda Navy Hospital in Maryland. He was raised all over the world as his father was stationed in the Navy at the time. Some of the countries he has lived in include Australia, Singapore, England and the United States.

Murray’s mother is a woman named Vivienne Lee who later went on to become the fourth wife of television producer and screenwriter Donald P. Bellisario. This means that Murray is Bellisario’s stepson, and he has seven step-siblings including “Pretty Little Liars” actress Troian Bellisario and “JAG” actor Michael Bellisario. Murray also has one biological brother named Chad, who is a producer on “NCIS: Los Angeles.”

Looking at his father’s previous job experiences and his mother’s connection to the entertainment industry, it only makes sense that Murray would one day go on to star in the TV series “NCIS.” Before that, though, Murray went on to find work starting when he was just a teenager. The actor was only 16 years old when he played the role of Emily’s older brother in the Disney Halloween film “Hocus Pocus.” Because of his young age, he had not had much experience in the acting field, and he had recently begun to receive acknowledgment for his work. In 1993, he starred in the films “This Boy's Life,” “Civil Wars” and “Too Romantic.”

After his appearance in "Hocus Pocus," plenty of opportunities opened up for Murray, and he accomplished every one of them. He is mainly known for his roles in television series including “The Random Years,” “Touched by an Angel” and “JAG.” However, it’s evident that Murray’s most notable role was playing Timothy McGee in “NCIS.”

Murray has been on “NCIS” since the first season. While he was first cast in a recurring role, he was quickly bumped up to the main cast the following season. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Murray makes about $300,000 per episode of “NCIS.” He has a current estimated net worth of $8 million.

When asked by the Inquirer how much of himself is in his character and vice versa, Murray explained:

“It’s a bit of both. The characters have very much evolved over the years – mine probably more than others … To me, it’s not just professionally, but also personally: Meeting a woman, getting married, having kids and becoming a father – I mean, the growth for me has been amazing. I’ve always pushed for growth.”

Murray first met his wife Carrie James back in 2004 and they tied the knot the following year in November. In 2007, they welcomed their first child, a daughter named Caitlyn. In 2010, their second child, a son named River, was born.

Back in 2021, “NCIS” reached a huge milestone and aired its 400th episode.

“It’s funny because it doesn’t feel like it’s been 400 episodes already,” Murray told Inquirer in the same interview. “I’ve never gotten the feeling of it being slowed or labored. It has always felt like we’re moving and going forward, maybe because we’re having fun and we all get along.”

Nowadays, the actor is 44 years old and still working. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “NCIS” has been picked up for another season and is set to stay on the air at least until 2023.
