A woman in Marysville, Washington is still in shock after two people posing as Child Protection Services (CPS) workers tried to take her 4-year-old son.
Jessi McCombs said that she opened the door last week to two people standing on her front porch wearing professional clothing and claiming that they were with CPS. The man and the woman said that they were taking Jessi's son into protective custody because of his injuries. Jessi was understandably confused, especially because her son did not have any injuries. She initially thought that the people must have had the wrong house. However, the couple was able to verify her son's first name and birth date.

When the man and woman could not provide identification or a court order, Jessi knew that it must be some type of scam. She immediately called 911 thinking that her child may be kidnapped if she did not take quick action, reports KIRO. As soon as she picked up the phone, the duo took off, telling Jessi that they would be back later. The Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families confirmed that any CPS officer will always be accompanied by law enforcement in situations such as this. Officials applauded Jessi for her quick thinking.
This terrifying incident comes on the heels of a similar event last month in Santa Ana, California when a woman posing as a social worker tried to take a newborn baby reports ABC. The events are shedding light on the growing problem of people posing as CPS agents in an attempt to take children from their families.
