Mother Reprimands Babysitter For Being ‘Inappropriate’ And Taking A Shower While Looking After Her Children

Jun 23, 2023 by apost team

Different people have varying expectations of their employees; as a result, workers usually have contrasting experiences depending on where they work and who they work for. Common problems at work include bullying, harassment, gossip, trust issues, miscommunication, or lack of communication, among many other difficulties.

On both sides, problems in the workplace are unpleasant situations. A dissatisfied employee will render lower and ineffective performance, while a disgruntled employer can cut wages, withhold due promotion or punish the employee in whatever way they deem fit. Regardless of which side is offended, problems in the workplace can lead to reduced output and much bigger problems.

Employers sometimes have conflicts with their workers in certain work scenarios — like babysitting — for many reasons. These conflicts can arise because the employer has unrealistic expectations of their workers. They can also happen because the employee is not ready to accede to the employer's requests or go beyond what they think is required of them.

Regardless of the cause of the conflict, tough situations can be resolved when both parties identify the root of the problem and effectively communicate to resolve it. Understanding which side is wrong and apologizing also goes a long way to help resolve the conflict.

A Redditor tried to do this when they asked the Reddit community for their opinion on an issue. In November 2022, the OP (Original Poster) asked if she was right to tell her babysitter not to shower in her home as it was inappropriate. She added that the babysitter didn't agree with her, and a disagreement ensued. Continue reading to find out more about the woman's story and the responses she got.

A woman rebuked her employee when she came home and found out that the babysitter, 24, showered while she was supposed to be watching the kids, aged 5 and 3 years old. The OP explained that they had had no issues until she got home and found out her babysitter used her shower after one of the kids spilled milk on her. She explained

“I came home at 6pm and noticed the babysitter's wet hair and new clothes. She told me she took a shower after one of the kids spilled milk on her. I was confused but visibly upset but she tried to "reassure" me the kids were fine, because my husband watched them while she took her shower which only lasted for few minutes.”

The OP felt it was still "inappropriate" and was even "more confused" about why her husband was at home despite having a shift to cover. As the women argued over who was right or wrong, her husband heard the altercation and joined them. He supported the babysitter and told the wife she was overreacting.

They continued arguing over the phone after the babysitter went home, and the OP eventually threatened to dock her employee's pay, which the babysitter said was unfair. She also told her employee that she didn't like how she dismissed her concerns.

"My husband keeps saying that I'm overreacting and the 'poor girl' couldn't handle having milk stains on her body and clothes," she continued.

The OP asked if she was right not to pay the babysitter, who claimed to have been drenched in milk for over six hours. She also explained that her husband was home because he felt sick and swapped shifts with a coworker.

Many Redditors flocked to the post to criticize the OP. Most people believed that the woman's anxiety wasn't over the babysitter taking a shower but that she was more troubled at the thought of her husband staying home with a 24-year-old. Very few, if any, supported her.

A Redditor asked why she was upset when her kid spilled milk on the woman.

"You’ll be lucky if she ever comes back, and if she does, count your lucky stars, apologize profusely and check in with yourself on why this made you so irrationally angry — my guess is, you don’t trust your husband. YTA," they wrote

"Is this really about milk? If you're insecure about your husband's loyalty just say that." a Redditor commented.

Another user wrote:

"YTA. Someone got dirty at your home. Waiting would have made the situation worse, your husband okayed her using your shower. Any other issue you have is related to your husband unexpectedly being home when the babysitter was there."

"If her story is correct, then YTA. She shouldn't have to be wet and stinky and uncomfortable when there is an immediate and obvious way to correct that. Your husband being home is the issue here, and you know that, so take it up with him and not the sitter," they wrote.

Some other Redditors also criticized her for wanting to cut her babysitter's salary.

"Either fire her or don’t, but what on earth is this “cutting her salary” business??" someone asked.

Another supported the babysitter:

"YTA. I’ve been a nanny for 10 years. I’ve showered so many times at their house after being puked on, got insanely sweaty from who knows what crazy southern heat outdoor activities, and probably spilled milk too."
