A 14-year-old elephant remembered an amazing act of kindness that happened years before. Loijuk was able to grow older and become a mother because of the kindness that she experienced when she was younger.

So when she became a mother, she decided her child should get to know the people who saved her.

According to the Dodo, Loijuk was an orphan from the tender age of just five months. She was taken to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, and organization in Kenya that is run by many caring people. They took her in, fed and cared for her as she grew older, and eventually released her back into the wild.

However, Loijuk wasn't about to forget the humans who took such good care of her when she was a baby. Even though she has adapted very well to living in a natural setting, Loijuk goes back to visit with her caretakers once a month.

During one of these visits, Loijuk brought along her baby calf. The sanctuary realized that the healthy-looking animal was only a few hours old when Loijuk showed up at the facility. The caretakers decided that they were going to name the baby Lili.

Elephants are naturally quite protective of their little ones. However, Loijuk obviously remembered how well the people at the sanctuary took care of her when she was just a young calf herself. She allowed the head of the facility to get close to Lili.

Lili also displayed some trusting characteristics. She pressed into the legs of the keeper as he patted her. The baby could tell that her mom trusted the humans, so she decided that it was okay to trust them too.

The head sanctuary keeper also breathed into the young elephant's trunk. That is because elephants are known for having a very good sense of smell. They also have wonderful memories. In order to bond with elephants, professionals will breathe into their trunks to let the animals realize their unique scent.

Loijuk stayed close to the sanctuary during the week that followed. It was if she wanted the keepers to make sure her baby was healthy, so that is exactly what they did. The checked on her often to make sure that everything was well with her. They also supplemented her diet to make sure that she was getting enough nutrition during the dry season.

Lili is a beautiful elephant who will stay with the herd. What did you think? Leave a comment about the article below, and then pass this along!
