Montana, Idaho And Wyoming Are Getting Summer Snow Right Now

Aug 31, 2018 by apost team

This summer's heatwave has most Americans wishing they were walking in a winter wonderland. In parts of Montana, Idaho and Wyoming, that wish came true. Residents of the states are in shock after the National Weather Service called for 4 to 8 inches of snow through Tuesday, August 28th.

Most of us are putting away our pool noodles and prepping our palettes for the first pumpkin spice latte of fall, but kids in Montana, Idaho and Wyoming might want to break out their back-to-school snow pants.

The National Weather Service of Cheyenne, Wyo., tweeted a forecast on August 26th that placed the city in its first Winter Weather Advisory of the season. Snow will fall from the Northern Rockies in Mont. and Wyo. throughout the week, and temperatures are expected to drop as low as 48 degrees Fahrenheit. Adjacent parts of Idaho may also be affected.

It's not uncommon for locations with high elevations to receive snow in the summer. The Weather Channel explained that a jet stream traveling south across the region can cause cold air and moisture to intertwine, which results in summer snow.

If it's a bit too early to be dreaming of a white Christmas, don't worry; the snow isn't expected to stick around for long. Rising temperatures will melt away most of the flurries in the coming days, but there's also some good news about the unexpected snowfall: The early snow has helped clear smoke from the wildfires plaguing parts of the western U.S. and Canada.

At 7 A.M. on August 27th in Mont., only an inch of snow was recorded. It might not be much, but it's enough to have most Americans outside of the region scratching their head (and maybe enviously cranking up their AC).
