Monstrous Alligator Strolls Florida Golf Course As Hurricane Roars

They say don’t taunt the alligator until after you’ve crossed the creek. But what about the golf course? Over in Naples, FL, country clubbers in and around the club’s Valencia Golf Course got an exciting treat (depending on how they look at it) this past Wednesday, November 11th, as a 10-foot-long — yes, you read that right — alligator strolled across the golf course in broad daylight.

A passerby captured the creature on camera, which looked like it belonged on the front cover of a Jurassic Park film. It is unclear how the large reptile got so far inland during Tropical Storm Eta. Luckily, it did not appear that any people were in its path or in danger of being harmed.

Current inhabitants of the Valencia Country Club and Golf Course could not be seen out and about as the reptile traipsed through the field. Due to its massive size, it is likely anyone with eyes quickly went indoors and out of harm’s way upon seeing the creature approaching. One could say that the club’s members were more than happy to let the gator play a few holes.

The gator strolled about for several minutes before likely being escorted back to its home — or at least back to a place better-suited to its reptilian needs than the country club. This was not, however, before a young man by the name of Tyler Stolting captured the whole ordeal on video, allowing the scaly friend to become an overnight social media sensation.

In the video, which you can watch below, the alligator can be seen walking along the golf course on all fours toward the course’s pond. The person recording the video jokes that the gator is out for a stroll. While this may be a normal sight for Floridians and others in the south, onlookers around the world likely caught a chill while viewing the video at the thought of seeing the massive creature in real life.

From screen grabs captured from the video by WINK-TV meteorologist Matt Devitt, the alligator looks more like a statue than an actual creature. Many viewers first thought that it was so until the video began circulating online more and it came out that this was, in fact, a real creature. Even its legs, long and thick like something out of a scary movie, look fake. However, this gator is frighteningly real.

Unfortunately for Florida, this is not the first time — not even the first time this year — that a massive alligator has been spotted out and about in the tropical state. Just last month in October, the Duran Golf Club in Melbourne was visited by another 10-foot alligator. Being another area that is right on the coast of Florida, it isn’t surprising that the gator wandered in, though it is quite surprising that, again, it is roaming around so freely.

A video captured by Nicole Latner shows an equally as long, but not nearly as massive, alligator roaming through the Duran Golf Course. Again, no people are in sight while the gator is strolling across the club’s grounds, with only Nicole’s voice being heard behind the camera. Nicole informed the FOX 35 News crew that it is not uncommon to see the gators in the area, though they usually stay in the water. The manager of the golf course also said that this particular gator has been a repeat visitor to the golf course over the past few years. Who knew gators loved golfing so much?

While the camerapersons of these videos made light of the presence of these large reptiles, most would not react so lightheartedly. Those not from or accustomed to the tropical south, and often, even those who are, are not used to seeing these amazing creatures on a regular basis. Though amazing creatures live and roam among us daily, they usually stay tucked away in their homes — be it in the murky waters, the deep forests, or the highest of mountains.
