Mom Unknowingly Had Been Living With Cancer For 3 Years After Doctor Kept Telling Her It's Depression

Sometimes pregnancy and the effects of giving birth mask the symptoms of life-threatening illness and disease. This is exactly what happened to Claire Thompson.

The 38-year-old gave birth to her first daughter and immediately felt that something was off. Although she was relieved to have a healthy baby, she began to experience excessive bleeding, fatigue and bloating.

She made an appointment with her doctor and explained all of the symptoms. The doctor said that Claire was simply suffering from a normal case of postnatal depression and fatigue. Healthcare professionals define these symptoms as the body and mind having problems adjusting to life as a new mom. This form of depression is extremely common, affecting more than three million women in the US alone each year.

While Claire initially believed her doctors about the diagnosis of postnatal depression, she became increasingly worried when her symptoms only got worse. Her periods were so heavy that she had to resort to wearing layers of incontinence pads and bringing extra clothes to work in case she soiled them.

Claire visited various doctors at least 20 times in only 18 months trying to get to the bottom of the symptoms. The physicians continued to maintain that she was suffering from postnatal depression.

Her bloating became so bad that she even looked pregnant again. It was then that doctors finally found a mass located on her left ovary and fallopian tube. The doctors said that it was a non-threatening cyst that she did not need to worry about.

Not wanting to take the doctor's word, Claire insisted that the cyst be removed. It was then that she learned that she actually had cancer. Understandably, Claire was incredibly upset that nobody had listened to her through all of these years.

Claire is now using her experience to warn others about the importance of being an advocate for your own health and trusting your gut instinct. You can hear Claire's message and learn more about her story by watching this video.
