Mom Panics As Man Stares At Daughter In Coffee Shop, But Once He Sees Baby's Face He Bursts Into Tears

When parents bring their young children out into the public, it's normal for them to feel extra protective. This feeling is amplified when passerby's and strangers seem to stare at their young ones. Unfortunately, these stares are all too common for parents who have kids with disabilities. Creepy stares just aren't easy for anybody to get used to--regardless of how different a child may appear.

One mother, Pamela De Almeida, is lucky enough to raise an amazing daughter with Down syndrome. Despite how awesome her child is, she realizes that others act differently towards her, all because she has Down syndrome.

Pamela has written on her on blog that it's easy to point out people whispering about her child. While whispers are meant to be secret and unheard from others, it seems as though people purposefully whisper just loud enough for her to hear, making rude marks and gestures that she notices in an instant.

This blatant disregard for privacy and respect is starting to become easy for her daughter to point out, too.

Pamela's blog, titled Slice of Life, contains personal stories from her encounters. In one post, she describes how two women went out of their way to get a look at her child. They wiggled around their seats, straining their own necks, and hadn't the slightest clue that Pamela was watching them, staring back at them. The experience, as she recalls, literally made her cry.

Pamela continues the story, stating that at that very moment when she couldn't take it any longer, an older couple came up to her and her child. Pamela obviously assumed they were there to judge her child, too.

However, something totally unexpected happened.

The old man wasn't whispering, nor was he being rude. On the contrary, the old man gave Pamela's kid, named Sophia, a high five, and beamed with joy at her. Sophia looked like one of the happiest girls on the planet in that moment. The man even gave Sophia a hand shake.

Unbeknownst to Pamela, the man had a strong sense of empathy towards her and Sophia. He confided, choking up himself, that the news the other night had portrayed a particularly sad and horrific story. He admitted that doctors attempted to convince a mother, who had just given birth to a child with a disability, to get rid of the child.

In an interview, the mother explained her decision to keep her child. The man almost couldn't finish, but Pamela encouraged him as he continued to confide.

The mother, who had just given birth to a disabled child, told the world in her interview that parents can have such a positive impact on any kid's life. Her words stuck with the old man, who couldn't help but think about how beautiful Sophia truly is.

In her blog, Pamela said she started crying again, only this time they were tears of joy. Never in her life had she been given praise to giving birth to Sophia. It felt amazing.
