Being a mom isn’t easy. In fact, it’s probably one of the toughest jobs in the world. A lot of first-time moms can attest to how hard the first few months or years of being a mom is. But the time will come when moms eventually master the art of motherhood. Then again, a mom never stops being a mom even though their kids are already grown-ups. Perhaps one of the most challenging parts of being a mom is raising a child. For one, not only is the mom taking care of her child, but she could also be tending to other household duties. Or maybe she also has a day job. Either way, it can be tough.
That said, it can be hard to take care of everything alone. So, it should never be demanded from a woman to always keep things in order. After all, it’s never just a woman’s job to take care of everything at home on her own. Take it from one woman who has been taking it to TikTok to remind women that it’s OK to have a messy home. But people have mixed feelings about her videos.
Emily Feret of Oak Lawn, Illinois, has been inspiring people with her videos where she aims to normalize what she described as “life without the filter.” Her goal? To make other people feel better about their situation in their house while giving them a glimpse into her own house. These videos show a typical day in her life, giving a glimpse of her unorganized kitchen and her messy refrigerator.
In one of the videos that she shared in April 2021, where she gave a tour of her kitchen, Feret received various reactions from people.

“I’m gonna show you my fridge so you can make feel better about yours,” she said.
“Let me walk around my house and make you feel better about yours," the mom added. Some encouraged her to keep producing the content, while others said her video is giving other people anxiety, pointing out that she might have a different definition of what normal means.
“My ‘normal’ is different from yours. My anxiety wouldn’t do well in your normal. To each her own and that’s okay,” another person said.
In another video where Feret showed what’s inside her refrigerator, a lot of people related to her.
“These just keep getting better and better,” one person said.
Feret felt like a supermom after she had given birth to her first child. But it wasn’t the same when her second child arrived 18 months later as she developed postpartum depression. “Once I realized that the cleanliness of my home had no direct correlation to who I am and that I was not a lazy person, it was easy to be comical about it,” she told TODAY. While her husband also helped, she did most of the housework since she was a stay-at-home mom.
But Feret isn’t the only one being transparent about what’s going on inside their own houses. Celebrities like Julia Fox and Drew Barrymore have also been giving fans a glimpse into their messy homes. Fox gave people a tour of her messy 1-bedroom apartment. Barrymore, on the other hand, showed a look at her room before cleaning it.
Even Marie Kondo, known for her famous decluttering method, admitted that she is happily spending time with her three children in her “messy” home.
Despite the different reactions she received from people, Feret continues to bring smiles to moms with her hilarious videos.
