Mom Leaves Her 2 Children In A Hot Car & Receives Verbal Bashing From Police Officer

Leaving children alone in a car can be very dangerous. Other than the fact that children are adventurous, they often can't tell right from wrong and almost always don't know what to do when there is an emergency. Hence, they can get trapped in such situations.

Children often try to imitate their parents and can start a car when the adults are not with them. There are many instances of children who have died or suffered injuries because they were left unattended. Leaving children in a locked car has led to the death of at least 623 children in the US since 1998. Although in most cases, the kids were below the age of 3, teenagers as old as 14 have died due to heatstroke.

The dangers of leaving children in a hot car cannot be overemphasized. Seattle Children's put the number of children who die from heatstroke in a car every year at 38. While the temperature outside the car may not be too hot, the organization estimated that the "inside of a car can rise above 20 degrees in just 10 minutes and 40 degrees in an hour."

Heatstroke is one of the most common incidents from locking children in vehicles. It can cause brain and organ damage. If the child is left for too long, they can die before they are rescued.

A police officer in Vancouver, Canada, armed with this knowledge, dominated headlines on July 3, 2017, after he was seen criticizing a mom who locked her children in a car for 20 minutes and went grocery shopping. A passerby recorded the altercation between the officer and the woman, and the video quickly went viral. Continue reading for details.

A policeman from Vancouver trended online after a video showed him bashing a mom. The video, taken on July 3, 2017, was recorded by a passerby at a grocery store on Grandview Highway, where the mom shopped from.

Passersby alerted the police when they saw two children locked in a car with the alarms going off and no adults in sight. When the mom came out of the store, they stood in front and behind her car so she wouldn't get away before the police arrived.

When the officers got to the venue, they found two children, a 6-year-old girl, and a boy, a little over 3 years old. A firetruck and an ambulance also followed the police cars. The children were dehydrated upon examination and were given water on the spot. However, they did not require further medical attention.

The mom claimed that her sunroof was tilted open and she was only away from them for five minutes, but witnesses refuted her claims, alleging that they stood by the car for 20 minutes before she came out.

The clip showed when a furious police officer turned to her and yelled

"Do you understand what you have done? Your children could have died.”

However, the woman argued with the officer and crossed her arms around her chest. The officer then cut in and hollered

“Why are you arguing? You want me to seize your kids and you’ll never see them again?”

The Vancouver Police Chief, Adam Palmer, revealed later that no charges were pressed against the woman. Still, the Ministry of Children and Families (MCFD) was involved in the case after the incident. Palmer explained that the angry police officer was a highly respected cop has kids of his own and was concerned about the children's safety.
