Self-expression is simply being in touch with and communicating your individuality. For many, it is an opportunity to showcase their true selves without judgment or hiding behind layers of self-doubt. Living in your true self allows you to rid yourself of stress rather than keep them buried. It also allows for the formation of meaningful relationships across boards.

People communicate their individuality in so many ways, including music, writing, art forms, drawing, hairstyle, dance, and many others. Tattoos are a form of art that has helped people express their individuality for centuries. They are a silent form of self-expression that makes cultural statements, transcends language barriers, represents beliefs, and symbolizes remembrance.

Although tattoos have existed for years across generations, many people are still opposed to having them. This aversion may be rooted in religions that demonize them, cultures that consider them unidentifiable, or just a personal dislike for them. However, recently, due to their increased popularity among the young population, many have warmed up to the idea of wearing tattoos. However, they draw the line when it is drawn on a child.

Besides that, it is illegal in some states; many believe tattooing on a child's body will set them on a path they weren't initially headed for. For this reason, a Florida mother, Shamekia Morris, who tattooed her toddler's body, caused a stir on social media. On June 27, 2021, Shamekia shared a picture of her infant son posing for his 6th-month birthday photoshoot and flaunting the fake tattoos. However, the snapshot led to criticism from netizens. A Florida mom, Shamekia Morris, got more than she bargained for over her decision to tattoo her baby Treylin Armani's body. Morris went viral for donning her infant with temporary tattoos and stirred up a discourse on the boundaries of parental creativity. While some are against it, questioning her parental skills, others have thrown their full support behind the mom.

The mother of one sparked controversy in June 2021 when she shared a picture of her infant covered in tattoos for his six months photo shoot. The post received reactions, some of which questioned her parenting skills. Morris responded to the backlash, stating that she didn't care how the public views her parenting skills. In an interview with Truly, Morris talked about the backlash she received.

"I get a lot of aggressive reactions; people say that I am raising my son as a gangster,' a thug,' and that they are not used to seeing a baby with tattoos," she said.

Tattooing her son's body wasn't the first time Morris had come under heavy criticism from social media users. She was criticized during her pregnancy for doing a maternity photo shoot in a tattoo parlor.

"When I was eight months pregnant, I did a photoshoot with my brothers in a tattoo store. (Since then) I was mocked on social media. All the comments were negative; people said my baby was going to be born with a bunch of tattoos. He's going to have poison on his skin. It was crazy," she shared.

Despite the backlash she has received from people on the internet, Morris has refused to bow under the pressure. She opened an Instagram page for her son, showcasing his temporary tattoo art. She also shares pictures and videos of her toddler showing off his tattoos.
