Melanie Lynskey is one of the most promising character actresses in Hollywood. She is well-known for portraying complex women characters and has a good grasp and command of various American dialects.

Although she has worked predominantly in independent films, Lynskey is a force to be reckoned with in the acting department. She is a recipient of a New Zealand Film Award, a Hollywood Film Award, a Sundance Special Jury Award, an HCA Award, a Gracie Award and even two Critics’ Choice Awards.

She has also earned nominations from the Sattelite, Gotham, Golden Nymph, Independent Spirit and the Screen Actors Guild.

She is known for movies and series like “Mrs. America,” “Two and a Half Men,” “Castle Rock,” “Coyote Ugly,” “Flags of Our Fathers” and “Up in the Air,” among many others. Lynskey has also starred in films such as “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,” “I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore” and the star-studded film “Don’t Look Up.”

In July 2023, Lynskey was nominated again for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role on “Yellowjackets” and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series in her guest appearance on “The Last of Us.”

Apart from being a decorated actress, Lynskey is also a loving wife to actor Jason Ritter, whom she revealed to have had proposed to her multiple times. Keep on reading to learn more about Lynskey, her marriage to Ritter and why she's had multiple proposals from her husband.

In 2017, Lynskey was engaged to Emmy-nominated actor Ritter. The couple have shown that they make a great team, and the loving husband is always there to defend his wife when needed.

In 2022, Lynskey spoke out on Twitter about the body-shaming she has experienced since the show “Yellowjackets,” on which she plays Shauna, began airing. Ritter saw the rude comments his wife was getting online and jumped to her defense.

“If anyone has any further unsolicited comments about *anybody* else’s body, they can feel free to write them in permanent ink onto their own foreheads and swan dive directly into the sun,” he tweeted

In 2007, Lynskey divorced Jimmi Simpson citing irreconcilable differences. It wasn’t finalized until 2014. Three years later, Lynskey announced her engagement to Ritter, whom she had been dating for four years. The following year, Lynskey gave birth to her daughter, Kahikatea, but they weren’t married until a spur-of-the-moment wedding in 2020.

Turns out, Lynskey and Ritter got married because of complex COVID-19 restrictions, which they happily recall everyone once in a while in interviews.

In an interview on Jess Cagle’s show on Sirius XM, Lynskey recalled that when she was supposed to fly to Canada for the filming of “Yellowjackets,” she was informed of a COVID-19 protocol in the country that surprised her.

"And I was on the phone with somebody, and they said, 'Oh, he won't be allowed in.' And I was like, 'We have a child. What? I can't leave for six months.' So, I was like, 'We have to get married tomorrow.'" she joyfully recalled. However, their love isn’t that shallow. The two had been toying and joking about getting married since being together in 2013.

Although she clarified that the news that Ritter wouldn't be allowed to enter the country was actually false, Lynskey revealed on “The Jess Cagle Show” that they got married in front of their front porch in the house they rented in Atlanta, Georgia. They only had two guests at the wedding, Jackson William Harper and Ali Ahn

"They brought a cake and flowers and everything we needed," she added. "It was actually a very fun wedding day, but it didn't need to happen. He could totally have gotten into Canada."

In another interview with Lynskey on “Shut Up Evan: The Newsletter,” Ritter called in and had some questions for his wife.

“Hi, Melanie. It's Jason. I have a two-part question for you: The first part: Is there something about the human condition, being human in general, that is fascinating enough to you that it made you want to do a job where you study this creature and you pretend to be these things for your life's work?” he asked. “The second part: Will you marry me (again)? Please get back to me as quickly as possible. Thank you. Bye!”

Lynskey answered the questions with a laugh confessing that her husband’s “cute” second question was actually an “inside joke” they share.

“That's a little inside joke because the first time he proposed it wasn't great, so he re-proposes all the time to make up for it, which is really cute,” she admitted.

In answering the other question, she had this to say: “It's a very complicated question. I am fascinated by people. I would rather just sit and talk than do anything else. I don't like small talk; I want to just get to know people. I want to hear everything. I guess I'm fascinated by humans.”
