Meghan Markle is shedding light on the often-unspoken challenges of new motherhood – including her encounter with postpartum preeclampsia – in the first episode of her new podcast, “Confessions of a Female Founder.” The condition, according to Mayo Clinic, is rare and serious, involving high blood pressure and excess protein in the urine that can appear after childbirth.

On Mar. 13, 2025, Meghan and Lemonada Media announced the podcast’s launch, which spans eight episodes. The series follows her path in creating her As Ever lifestyle brand and features open conversations with other female entrepreneurs. This marks her first collaboration with Lemonada since signing with them in February 2024, after she and Prince Harry ended their deal with Spotify. The new series also serves as her second venture into podcasting, following the 2022 debut of “Archetypes.”

Meghan, 43, appeared on the show on Apr. 8, 2025, starting with a meaningful discussion with her first guest and longtime friend, Bumble CEO and founder Whitney Wolfe Herd, 35. During their conversation, Wolfe Herd recalled the global attention surrounding Meghan and Prince Harry’s decision to introduce their son, Prince Archie, to the world just two days after his birth in May 2019 – continuing a longstanding royal tradition previously observed by Princess Diana and Catherine, Princess of Wales.

“I mean, I’ll never forget the image of you after you delivered Archie, and the whole world was waiting for his debut,” Wolfe Herd said. “I was either just becoming or about to become a new mom, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, how is this woman doing this? How is this woman putting on heels and going and debuting a child in this, you know, beautiful outfit in front of the entire world?’”

Meghan also reflected on balancing work and home life, revealing:

“We became moms in the pandemic, post-pandemic culture, where there is so much working from home… I don’t leave the house to go to an office; my office is here.”

The Duchess of Sussex also touched on the challenges and joys of raising young children while launching a business, emphasizing how these parallel experiences provide a meaningful perspective.

“What I do love the most about having young kids, in this chapter while I’m building (business), is the perspective that it brings because you’re building something while your child’s going through potty training...and both are just as important… It’s like, ‘Great, okay, where’s the Cheerios? Well done,’” she said.

She added that her day often involves rapidly switching between roles as a mother and a business leader.

“And then you’re championing your team 10 minutes later about something that is really high value for the world. In your own world, that’s super high value. And in (Lili’s) world, that’s super high value,” she remarked.

As she and Wolfe Herd spoke about the intersection of motherhood and career, Meghan disclosed that they both had experienced postpartum preeclampsia:

“We both had very similar experiences – though we didn’t know each other at the time – with postpartum, and we both had preeclampsia. Postpartum preeclampsia.”

The Duchess of Sussex did not specify whether she developed the condition after giving birth to her son, Prince Archie, or daughter, Princess Lilibet. Wolfe Herd, meanwhile, is the mother of two sons.

Meghan described the experience as deeply unsettling:

“It’s so rare and so scary, and you’re still trying to juggle all of these things, and the world doesn’t know what’s happening quietly. And in the quiet, you’re still trying to show up for people – mostly for your children – but those things are huge medical scares.”

Wolfe Herd echoed the sentiments on the seriousness of the condition, saying: “I mean life or death, truly.”
