Meghan Markle Might Have Broken These 5 Royal Rules Already

For many girls, it's a fairy tale fantasy come true: going from being an actress to being a member of the royal family. It's natural that things will change for Meghan Markle as she gets used to royal life. Everything from the way she's addressed to her fashion style is expected to evolve as she settles into her new title as the Duchess of Sussex.

...But that's not what's happening.

Here are the five royal rules that Meghan's already broken:

1. She announced she was in love with the prince to a major publication before an engagement had happened

Before the engagement had been sealed, Meghan Markle did an interview with the publication Vanity Fair, in which she announced that she and Prince Harry were "happy and in love." The royal family tends to be private about emotional topics and to take a more conservative approach to dating and love.

The unprecedented part wasn't the magazine interview; rather, it was unprecedented for her to publicly announce that the couple were "in love" when an official proposal hadn't happened.

2. The newlyweds have been showing some PDA

When Prince William and Kate Middleton go to events together, it's not considered polite to show affection in public, even in casual gestures like hand-holding and hair kisses. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, on the other hand, don't appear to have any problem with a little extra PDA. We'll give them a break, though -- the happy couple must be excited about their marriage!

3. Meghan has already been divorced

Meghan's first marriage was to the producer Trevor Engelson, but they divorced in 2013. While marrying divorcees isn't technically banned among the royal family, it isn't considered an ideal situation. Marrying a divorcee used to have a much more explicit ban; history is littered with the royals who cast off their crowns to marry their beloveds.

4. Her engagement ring was a diamond

Alright, alright, so you're wondering: What on earth is wrong with this one? After all, diamonds aren't technically taboo regarding the royal family. And shouldn't Prince Harry be held responsible? He was the one who bought the ring and proposed with it.

Regardless, royals are more likely to use gemstones in their engagement rings. Sarah Ferguson had a ruby ring while Princess Diana favored a sapphire. Diamond engagement rings are a much more modern jewelry accessory, which just shows what a normal woman Meghan Markle truly is.

5. She's an actress

The bride of the last big royal wedding, Kate Middleton, came from an upper-class British household before she was married. Meghan Markle? She doesn't have any noble connections; she's just a very successful actress. Her roots are humble, and she's proud and outspoken about it.

What do you think? Is this fairy tale duchess disrespecting royal tradition? Or is she heralding much-needed change to the monarchy?
