Meet 'The Young And The Restless' Jack Abbott's Gorgeous Real-Life Wife Of Over 30 Years

“The Young and the Restless” has been capturing fans’ hearts since it first aired back in March 1973. The soap opera follows the lives and stories of various characters within core families. With drama, romance, and vulnerability at its forefront, it’s no surprise that “The Young and the Restless” has been on television for so many years and has earned plenty of awards.

One of the characters from the soap opera is Jack Abbott. Jack was first introduced back in 1980 and was originally played by Terry Lester. However, the actor left the series nine years later and was replaced by Peter Bergman, with the latter’s first episode airing in late November 1989. His character is known for his longstanding feud with the Newman family patriarch, as Jack has been the Abbott family patriarch since 2006 when his father, John Abbott, died.

In the fictional soap opera, Jack has engaged in several romances, most notably with characters Nikki Newman, Phyllis Summers and Sharon Newman. However, Bergman’s real-life has also had its fair share of relationships, but one has lasted for well over three decades. He was previously married to actress Christine Ebersole, who is known for her work in film, television and on stage, but they divorced after five years of marriage.

Bergman was born on June 11, 1953, in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. According to CBS, he is the son of a U.S. Naval officer and moved around quite a bit during his childhood. In fact, he moved nine times with his family, all before entering the eighth grade. After Bergman graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1974, he went on to find some work in various theaters across the country. He also picked up roles in national television commercials.

Bergman’s career continued to escalate as the years went by, and it wasn’t long before he landed the role of Dr. Cliff Warner on the soap opera “All My Children.” He portrayed the role from 1979 to 1989. It’s clear that this was a great career move for the actor as he later found a home with another soap opera, “The Young and the Restless,” at the end of 1989.

Bergman has been on the latter series for more than 30 years now, and his character has been through quite a bit during that time. According to CBS, his character Jack survived endless personal and business setbacks and was even divorced five times. Jack’s ongoing rivalry with Victor Newman, portrayed by Eric Braeden, has been a longstanding plot point in the series and has gotten in the way of Jack’s personal accomplishments countless times.

Bergman himself has received 21 Emmy nominations and won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in 1991, 1992 and 2002. He has also gone on to guest star in “The Nanny” and “The King of Queens,” and has appeared in a few made-for-TV movies such as “Woman on the Ledge” and “Palomino.”

In his real life, Bergman is married to an “amazing” woman named Mariellen, with whom he has two children: Connor and Clare, as per CBS. The couple has been married since October 1985 and has been in love for well over three decades.

According to Glamour Path, Mariellen was born in the late 1960s and lived a life away from the spotlight prior to meeting Bergman. While she has been seen proudly supporting her star husband over the years, Mariellen still enjoys living her life as privately as possible. Glamour Path reported that she was spotted at the 29th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in 2002, and Bergman thanked Mariellen for always supporting him.

Back in September 2020, Bergman spoke with Soap Hub about what life is like with his wife and children and how they adjusted to the unprecedented times during the pandemic. “When things go back to normal – if things ever go back to normal – I can’t wait to sit in a nice restaurant with (my wife) Mariellen and enjoy a nice meal,” Bergman said.

He also said that his “entire family is basketball crazy,” and that they all went to see the Lakers play before the pandemic first began. However, Bergman found himself enjoying his quality time at home with his family, especially because of his wife’s talents in the kitchen. “I am not a great cook,” Bergman explained. “My wife Mariellen IS.”

While Bergman’s character Jack Abbott certainly lives an eventful life in “The Young and the Restless,” it’s clear that Bergman’s real life is filled with plenty of family-bonding moments as he shares his life alongside his long-time wife, Mariellen.
