Meet Emma Corrin - The Actress Playing Princess Diana In Season 4 Of The Crown

Netflix’s The Crown has impressed audiences with its dramatic telling of the life of the United Kingdom’s Queen Elizabeth II. Season three was released earlier this month and saw newcomers Josh O’Connor and Erin Doherty portraying 20-year-old versions of Prince Charles and Princess Anne, respectively.

As fans gear up for season four, the show’s producers have already teased two big cast members: Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, the first female prime minister of the United Kingdom, and Emma Corrin as Princess Diana.

While audiences know Anderson from her role as Special Agent Dana Scully on The X-Files, Corrin is a relative newcomer to the entertainment industry. A little over a year ago, the 23-year-old Corrin was working for a retail startup in London, where her duties included packing boxes of underwear. Corrin got her big break when she landed a role on Epix’s Batman prequel series Pennyworth. Corrin played Esmé Whitaker, the girlfriend of Bruce Wayne’s future butler and series protagonist, Alfred Pennyworth. In April of this year, Corrin auditioned for the part of Princess Diana on The Crown. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Corrin told of she was awestruck when the casting team offered her the role on the spot, saying that it felt almost like a marriage proposal.

Before auditioning for the role of Diana, Corrin was a major fan of the show. The up and coming actress now says that she is humbled to be part of the show’s cast and has given particular praise to series writer and creator Peter Morgan. Corrin also said that Princess Diana is an icon the world over and that she will do her best to honor the People’s Princess in her portrayal.

Once images of Corrin playing Diana were released, fans of the series and those in the media became equally vocal in their belief that Corrin is the spitting image of the late Princess of Wales. Despite this insistence, Corrin says that she does not see much of a resemblance. Interestingly, Corrin says that her mother has also been told that she bears a strong resemblance to Diana.

Corrin’s co-star and onscreen love Josh O’Connor is also of the opinion that Corrin looks like Diana. Speaking with Harper’s Bazaar, O’Connor says that Corrin and Diana’s semblance is amazing and that the actress has done a top-notch job thus far. Fans took particular notice of Corrin when she was spotted filming in a white dress reminiscent of the Diana’s look from her 1983 Australian visit and a pink polka dress she wore when out with Prince Charles.

Producers of The Crown haven’t said when Corrin’s Diana will show up in season four, but given details from past seasons, it is possible to make an estimate. As season three ended with Queen Elizabeth’s Silver Jubilee in June of 1977 and Charles and Diana met in November of that year, it can be discerned that Corrin will appear in the season’s early episodes. Because each season of the show usually covers a decade, it is also likely fans will see Charles and Diana get married in season four.
