'Mate, I've Got $1,000': Aussie Man Hires Chopper In A Frantic Search For His Son

It's a parent's worst nightmare: It's late, your kid hasn't yet come home from a night out, and you're worried sick. This is unlike them, they're usually so responsible. Morning comes and they're still not there. Time to panic.

This is exactly what happened to a dad in Australia, and he knew something was definitely wrong when he hadn't heard from his son for 24 hours. After a series of unanswered phone calls to their son Samuel, the worried parents immediately went to the police station and feared the absolute worst.

The police told them to go home and wait, and suggested that their son may have run away. But Tony, Samuel's dad, knew that was uncharacteristic of his son. He would never do that. It had to have been something worse.

Tony's mind kept jumping to the grim idea that his son could have been in a car accident. He remembered that another car had crashed on a stretch of highway he knew his son would have been traveling down that night, and that the person hadn't been found for days. Tony knew that was the first place he had to start looking, and that he would only be able to search from the air since that area is thick with bush.

Tony walked into the Lake Macquarie Airport and said, "Mate, I've got $1,000 - I need you to search as much as you can."
