Stocking up at thrift stores can be a smart way to save money. Although it's not unusual to see patrons of these stores with bulging carts, one teen boy's overflowing cart caught another shopper's interest. A customer at the Goodwill store in Canton, Ohio, wondered why the teen was buying so many coats. Surely he didn't need all of them for himself, the man reasoned. His curiosity got the best of him, so he decided to inquire about the large purchase. He walked up to the teen and asked him the reason he was buying so many warm coats.

The teen's answer touched the man's soul.

The teen boy wasn't purchasing the coats to wear that winter. Instead, he was getting them to give them all away to the homeless! As the teen was rung up for this selfless $65 purchase of six winter coats at the cash register, the man took a photo of him. When the man got home, he shared the heartwarming story with his daughter and asked if she could post the teen's picture and an explanation online. He felt that this kind young man's deeds could be an inspiration to others.

Haley Stewart, the man's daughter, added the teen's photo to her Facebook page.

She included the story and a heartfelt message along with it: "We don't know who you are, Sir, but you deserve recognition! Keep being an amazing person! A very sweet and kind young man... My dad snapped his photo while shopping, after asking him what the coats were for, and it really touched his heart. We need more people like him in this world."

People continued to share the photo until it went viral. That's when people figured out his identity. The good Samaritan teen was none other than 19-year-old Frederick White. He later returned to the same Goodwill store to buy hats and gloves for the homeless in his community too!

When asked, Frederick explained that he had gotten the original idea from a story he saw on Facebook where people were leaving free coats for the homeless hanging in public places. He was also inspired by the Get Connected program of the United Way.

Frederick shared this sage advice on WKYC News: "One good deed for each person. Just wake up and do something different." The Goodwill store recognized Frederick's good deed by awarding him with a $200 gift card to Goodwill stores.

Did you find Frederick's random act of kindness inspirational? We'd love to know your thoughts! Pass this story along to remind others of the power of love and generosity!
