Man Weighing 649 Pounds Loses 365 Pounds Naturally And Says His Grandma ‘Would Be So Proud’ Of Him

A 42-year-old man from Mississippi, who originally weighed 649 pounds, managed to lose 365 pounds the natural way. Nicholas Craft from Hattiesburg dealt with weight issues since he was a child but he always had the support and motivation of his grandmother, Georgia Moody.

Craft's weight issues stemmed from depression that drove him to overeat and withdraw from people. His sedentary lifestyle was also a factor in his weight gain. Eventually, he had a harder time moving around or fitting into vehicles. He also developed different kinds of body aches and pain and had breathing problems.

But in June 2019, Craft decided to embark on losing weight after a doctor told him that his 649-pound weight was "a ticking time bomb" for his 5-foot-9 frame. He also realized that he wanted to have a longer life.

So, Craft began his weight loss journey by cutting back on soda, fried food and junk food. He did not go for quick fixes but instead focused on making small and achievable changes like filling up his diet with more fruits, vegetables and protein instead of bread or pasta.

Craft also aimed to limit his calorie intake to 1,200 from 1,500 a day and he pushed himself to move as well. Slowly, he saw his efforts delivering results and he lost 40 pounds in the first month.

As soon as he started losing weight, Craft began with strength training using dumbbells. He also phoned his grandmother regularly. When he struggled with suicidal thoughts, his grandmother helped with his bearings and pushed him to go for his goal of losing weight.

Craft had the habit of charting his weight loss progress on Facebook by sharing his before and after photos. In January 2023, he remarked that "self-love is the best love" to commemorate his four-and-a-half-year journey.

However, his grandmother was no longer around to witness his amazing transformation because she died before Craft started seeing bigger results from his weight loss. Before she passed, Moody wanted to see her grandson more often and he promised he would lose weight so he could visit her.

"She would be so proud of me," Craft told Fox News. "She was my source of motivation."

Since shredding 365 pounds, Craft said that he has more energy, fewer body pains or breathing problems, and he could finally fit inside vehicles. He has learned to control his cravings and doesn't overeat. Craft has a new doctor keeping his progress in check.

"I haven’t reached my weight loss goal just yet," Craft added. "But, it feels good knowing my story can help people who may be struggling with their weight."

Family and friends who follow him on Facebook commended his progress and his healthier lifestyle, with one person telling him that his grandmother gave him his second birth. While he hasn't had any help from surgery, supplements or medicines to lose weight, Craft might soon have to undergo a procedure to remove his loose skin, which has been causing some discomfort and pain.

His sister opened a GoFundMe page to help cover the cost because it is a cosmetic procedure, which is usually not covered by insurance. He will need at least $20,000 for this life-changing surgery.
