Man Transforms Defunct Boeing 737 Into Unique And Quirky Rental Property Perfect For Unforgettable Vacation

Do you know the saying “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure?” This is probably the best line to describe what a British entrepreneur did to an old aircraft which he later turned into a quirky Airbnb property for other people to enjoy and have fun in.

In a video shared on Steven Northam’s YouTube channel in February 2023, he explained that he bought the front section of an old Boeing 737-200 the year prior.

In an August 2023 interview with Insider, Northam explained that the aircraft randomly popped up on eBay, and he immediately became fascinated with it.

He told the outlet that it was something different, and he immediately thought of it as a possible business venture.

Although the front part of the aircraft was no longer working as it was already detached from the rest of its parts, it was still quite expensive as he paid over £5,000 (approximately $6,165).

Initially, he gave up on moving it until the original owner became involved with the shipping, and it finally arrived at the location where he wanted to set it up.

It took about three months for him to get the aircraft delivered to his home in Winchester, England. Shipping was not his only problem, as he also needed to renovate it, which was not easy. 

The remains of the once formidable aircraft were from Chichester College, where it was originally used to train those who wanted to become part of a flight crew.

Before he purchased the enormous product, it was left abandoned for 15 years.

It took an extensive amount of work for his quirky Airbnb vision to come to life. He told the outlet that he spent a whopping £15,000 (approximately $18,480) just for the renovation of the interior part as well as repainting the exterior in order for it to look new again.

At first, he was the only one who worked on the project as he told the outlet, “I did the whole thing, single-handedly, a three-month project… Just me, on my own, essentially.”

Northam began by removing most of the seats and having fresh new floors laid, as well as a carpet for it to have a homey vibe.

Once his first step was done, he was left with a big, empty space, so he divided the aircraft into different areas.

After spending over £20,000 (approximately $24,679) for the entire project, which included the transportation and the overall renovation, Northam finally achieved what he wanted for his Airbnb project.

Before the transformation began, he described the aircraft as “sorry-looking,” but it was completely changed into a modern Airbnb vacation spot perfect for those who are looking for a stunning and unusual place to relax.

Aside from its unique interior and exterior design, the property is also equipped with WiFi, Smart TVs, video game consoles and more.

In addition, it also has air conditioning and heating, as well as a glass floor which shows the bottom part of the cargo hold.

One of the main features of the property is a hot tub made from an old engine hood. It also has a flight simulator in the cockpit for the ultimate plane experience.

As of August 2023, the property wasn’t listed on Airbnb yet as he still needs permits from the local council, but he planned to charge £150 (approximately $185.70) per night.
