Man Spots Crying Deer Stuck In Fence And Jumps Into Action In Order To Save Her

In 2017, a man heard a deer crying in pain from being stuck in a fence, and so he jumped right into action to save her. While we aren't sure of the exact origins of this video, we found it on the internet and loved it.
Be sure to reach the end of this article to see the full video :-)
In a story that can easily be filed in the "you don't see this every day" folder, a man wakes to find a doe hanging from her hoof in his wooden fence. She is clearly crying out in agony and cannot release herself.
Well, that's one way to wake up, we guess!

A Deer's Life
The white-tailed deer is native to North America and is known to be a gentle animal. They are usually timid around humans and will run off quickly if spooked. They tend to live in forests but have often been sighted in suburban backyards.
In fact, there are memes abound about cars hitting deer in the Midwest. If you live in this part of the United States, it isn't unusual to say "good evening" to loved ones leaving with "watch out for deer!" It has become an alternative way to show you care.
These herbivores love almost all plants and berries. You might even despise them for eating out of your garden. Hence the need for deer fencing to protect your produce!
Deer do have a few natural predators like bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions, but in areas without these predators, their populations can skyrocket. This causes them to move inward from the wild to more residential areas.
Deer are well-camouflaged and also known for their abilities to run and jump. This is their main mode of protection when danger is near. Deer can run up to 47 miles per hour, which is faster than the speed limit in most neighborhoods!
They are excellent swimmers, so crossing small rivers and creeks is no problem. They can also jump high and far — up to 9-feet high and 30-feet in distance! Wow!
A Miscalculated Jump
It makes sense that the deer in this video posted by The Dodo would have no qualms about jumping over what appears to be about a six-foot fence. So, what went wrong? Did this doe take the jump a little too far back? Maybe she lost her footing on the way up.
We will probably never know what happened to get her there, but we do know the result. This poor doe was stranded hanging from a wood fence with a hoof caught between two planks. Ouch!
She may have stayed suspended on that fence for a long time, possibly suffering severe damage to her leg if not for one man. He heard something strange outside and went to investigate. What he saw would amaze him.
The sound was that of the doe crying out in pain or for help. Or, maybe both. If you've ever heard a wild animal crying, it can be quite disturbing in a heartbreaking way. The man knew he had to do something, but as you can hear in his voice, he isn't sure what.
A Brave Rescue
He decided to turn on his phone's video recorder. I mean, it isn't every day you end up with a deer in your backyard, let alone hanging in your fence. "It's okay, girl. We'll get you out," the man reassures the member of the Cervidae family as he assesses the situation.
With the doe's three legs free, the man has to be careful not to startle her. It would be very easy for her to injure him by kicking with her hooves. You can tell he steers clear of the doe while speaking in a reassuring voice.
She seems to be calmed by his presence as she simply hangs in the fence. Can you imagine the pain she must be in to be suspended by one hoof with the rest of her bodyweight pulling down on her?
It makes sense that the man is eager to help and do it quickly. He knows he probably needs to help her from the back of the fence in order to keep them both safe. So, he walks around to the opposite side and tries to lift her hoof out of the crack in the panels. She cries out in pain, and our hearts ache for them both.
It's clear that she is simply too heavy to be removed this way. The man isn't sure what to do next as he walks back around to the deer. You can feel the frustration and perseverance in his voice. He isn't giving up on her.
The man walks back inside the fence and looks at the deer. She cries out to him as if she's saying "help me," and he replies, "I know, I know." Then, it appears he has an idea, and so he runs back outside.
He climbs up and appears to be pushing the fence panels apart. The doe cries and he says he knows it hurts. Finally, a panel breaks loose and the doe falls to the ground and runs off.
How exciting to be able to help the doe! This man essentially saved her life, and you can be sure the doe is grateful in her own way. We just love stories of man and beast bonding like this.
What do you think of our video? Would you have done the same to help this doe? Don't forget to pass this on to all your animal-loving friends and family members!
