Man Sleeps At Shelter For A Week To Help Dog Who Has Been There For 400 Days

There are thousands upon thousands of people who love animals and would do almost anything they could to help homeless pets find their forever homes. However, most people don’t go to the lengths that Scott Poore does. Poore has been devoting most of his life to helping animals, especially shelter dogs.

Poore hails from Kansas City and works for a group called Mission Driven. He left a 9-5 job to dedicate all of his time to helping dogs. His job was to create and promote fundraisers that raise money to help shelters meet the needs of the animals in their care. He also spends a lot of time with the residents of the shelters in order to help them find the homes that they so deserve.

One thing Poore is sure to do is find out which animals are the most in need. After determining that, he puts out a call on social media apps for help. However, in September 2019, no one could have guessed just how far Scott was willing to go to help one poor dog he cared for deeply at a shelter. Queen was a 3-year-old pit bull mix who had been a resident of the wonderful Great Plains SPCA for more than a year. She was waiting for someone to come in and give her a forever home. However, visitors are able to see how long each animal has been in the shelter, according to Poore. 

“When you’re a shelter pet and you’ve been in a shelter for 400 days, it says that on your kennel card. People see that and they think there has to be something wrong with the animal,” Poore told Inside Edition. Poore knew that it was time for drastic action.

Poore wanted to do something that could potentially go viral and bring attention to her sad story, so he decided to “move in” with Queen. He told Inside Edition that it wasn’t the most enjoyable time in his life, but he was “willing to put my life on hold.”

“I love my roommate and she has been amazing, and she loves the company,” he told the outlet.

He added life at the shelter wasn’t as it might seem. 

“When the staff leaves and the lights go off, you’d think everybody goes to sleep, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. There’s not a lot of sleep,” Poore explained.

He also told Fox News that despite not knowing how long he would be bunking with Queen, he was desperate to help give her a better life. He said:

“I honestly did not know if I was going to be there 24 hours or a month but I was prepared to do either.”

His experiment lasted for a full seven days from Sept. 17, 2019, through to Sept. 24, 2019, before the shelter received some amazing news. Queen had found a forever home, thanks to the efforts of one amazing man and his son who saw what Poore had done and decided to share their home with Queen.

When the day came for Queen to leave the shelter for her new home, she received a royal send-off, fitting for a queen! In a video shared by Mission Driven, staff and friends were seen lined up outside the shelter and threw flower petals as Poore and Queen walked to a car where Queen would be whisked off to her forever home. The caption read:

“Queen has left the building, thanks to an amazing man who fell in love with her story.”
