Man Discovers Shivering Horse In Backyard Pool After Wildfires Destroyed Surrounding Area

As you may have witnessed before, animals have a keen sense of survival skills, many times better than that of a human. They’re often sensitive to understanding when something bad is about to happen, and there are tons of videos on the internet of dogs and other mammals who have reactions before natural disasters such as earthquakes.

Dogs aren’t the only ones that have this reaction, however. Horses have similar sensitivity to trauma. Horses can sometimes become large chickens that get terrified at small things but also have the knowledge to understand when disaster is about to strike.

Although horses are paranoid creatures, they sure are smart. This is the same reason for which many horse owners, in times of natural disasters, unfortunately just let their horses go loose. While you should trailer them out of the area if you can, this isn’t always possible when a crisis strikes. It gives them a chance at survival instead of leaving them to die in their stalls alone with nowhere to escape.

In Paradise, California, a man named Jeff Hill had lost everything to a devastating fire. His family home was destroyed and all of his belongings wen with it. Thankfully, his loved ones and their pets were safe, but he needed resources to rebuild his shelter. One day, he and his friend decided to assess the damage the fires had caused. They decided to scope out the house of one of their friend's parents. Although it was kept safe from the fire, they found something immensely unexpected in the backyard.

A horse that had been let loose in the fires found itself a safe spot: the swimming pool. They found another horse in the area who had not gone into the pool, so there’s a chance that this horse just fell in. The pool was covered with a tarp, meaning that the horse could have mistaken it for solid ground. Although it could have been an accident, many horses have a history of finding water during fire natural disasters in order to create protection for themselves, so perhaps the horse knew what he was doing.

No matter what the reason, the horse was in the pool trapped and needed to be rescued after becoming tangled in the cover. So Hill and his friend decided they had to help free the horse. Hill explained the event on Facebook and called it a glimpse of happiness in such a hard time. He described the look of defeat in the horse's eyes, and it was at this moment he knew he had to rescue her in order to keep her alive.

They guided her into the shallow end and over to the steps to get out of the pool, and she miraculously made it out! Hill even describes that the horse stuck around for a few minutes to say her thank you before wandering off

In times of natural disaster, it’s important to remember that animals might be more impacted than humans. Show some compassion if you see an animal in need. Would you save a horse trapped due to the fires?
