Man Applauded For Taking Revenge On Dying Father Who Become Rich & Left Him & His Poor Mom For A New Family

Family dynamics can sometimes be complex. Different individuals make a family unit, and each person has a unique temperament and personality. Therefore, friction, resentment, and pain can arise if one or more persons act selfishly toward other family members. A man caused his son lifelong trauma when he took off from his family as soon as he became rich. The son avenged his dad and his new family when he became an adult. Afterward, he turned to Reddit in 2019 to ask if he did the right thing. 

The Redditor with the username Forward_Refrigerator started by acknowledging that he could be wrong, but he didn’t mind and then delved into the story. He was just nine when his dad got a huge promotion that shot up his salary to six figures, but the dad abandoned his family for a younger woman as soon as that happened. Meanwhile, the original poster’s (OP’s) dad never paid child support or alimony, although he could afford to take his new family on exotic vacations. 

“Well recently he got cancer and while on his deathbed decided what he really needed to do was find me and give me a non apology that basically came to 'well you got are rich anyway so what’s the harm?'" OP revealed. 

He shared that he was mad that his dad ignored the fact that his “mom worked herself to death” and his grandparents “had to come out of retirement to keep us off the streets considering he managed to settle my mom with all the debt that went into building his fortune.” 

OP then left, but not before cursing his sick dad, telling him he deserved the painful death he would have.

OP ranted to his father-in-law (FIL), who told him he could sue his late dad’s estate and get back the child support and alimony. The FIL also connected him to a friend who was a lawyer specializing in such cases. Thankfully, OP still had the emails his mom sent his dad begging for money while his dad mocked her and refused. 

They filed a case with that, and OP inherited his late dad’s entire estate. After a long asset investigation, OP got the last piece, which was the beachfront house his late dad bought his second wife for getting pregnant with their first kid. The second wife, accompanied by her three kids, delivered the keys to the house and proceeded to lecture OP for being a terrible person.

In return, OP said, “Lady, I’m just a bad man getting revenge on a worse man,” a response that thrilled Redditors. He also threw his dad’s second wife and her kids off the property. 

However, OP’s grandfather wasn’t happy at the turn of events. OP disclosed that his grandfather said, “because of what happened I met and married the love of my life, i went to a great college for free and he found a new career path he loves (how everyone forgot my mom couldn’t take time off to see a doctor and died because she had to work everyday is beyond me).” 

Regardless, OP didn’t care for his grandfather’s reservations as he wanted his late dad and his family to experience the same feelings he had after abandoning him and his mom. 

"I dont care, I hated what my dad did to us. He and that gold digger he married deserve to at least a modicum of the fear and pain I lived with as a kid," OP wrote.

With regard to Redditors’ fears that OP may be repeating his father’s mistakes, he clarified that his half-siblings were all in their early to mid-20s and had college degrees and had inherited substantial assets as well. 

Redditors backed OP and assured him he wasn’t the bad guy. 

“Sounds like good ole karma finally got around to wrapping up some loose ends! Not to laugh at a dying (now dead) man, but its funny how death makes people think they are absolved of a lifetime of being a sh***y person. He must have a made a real good life for himself after bailing on his previous family for him to be delusional enough to think ‘hey, im dying, let me reach out to that son of mine I’ve shunned for nearly all of his life. Im sure he would love one last goodbye to the dad who abandoned him’. How easily some people forget lol,” someone commented.

Another person replied, “Why should she expect anyone to care about her kids? She sure as hell didn’t care about you OP when pops wasn’t sending anything your way. Enjoy your new life. Hope Grandpa in time can respect the decision you made to do this but from where I’m sitting your no a**hole! Perfect revenge!”

Another user opined, “NTA. He should have provided for his first family before lavishing his second family with the premium gifts. The second wife should have ensured he did that..”

Another Redditor wrote, “Considering the judge and law sided with you, I really don’t see how you’re a bad man.

Great line though. I’m sorry about your mom.” 

However, OP responded: 

“My grandfather would tell you that moral and legal are not equal. Thanks. I choose to believe she somewhere better.”
