Being stuck at home can be hard for anyone, but even more so for children. They get bored easily and may feel sad about the fun things they are missing out on. A TikTok from 2020 went viral after it showed how one kind mailman goes out of his way to make a little girl smile every day, and especially on the days she was feeling isolated or lonely during the pandemic.
Mail carrier Ian Simon first began dancing with Ava, who was 3-years-old in 2020, when she was still a baby first learning to stand. He has kept up the fun routine every day he delivers the mail to the family's home in Portland, Oregon. Simon stops outside in front of the home's large front window to boogie with Ava, who is inside on the couch busting a move.
In the TikTok that shows Simon and Ava dancing together on many occasions, Ava's father, Dr. David Whitlow, shared how much the little daily routine means to him and his family. Seeing their daughter get excited and smile every day when Simon shows up is worth more to her parents than words can say. Simon doesn't have to do it since his job is only to drop off the mail, but he does it anyway to make Ava happy.
Dr. Whitlow thanked Simon in the video and expressed how much he means to their family. Now the TikTok has been shared over 50,000 times by people all over the world. This story of kindness has touched the hearts of many, but of Ava and her family most of all. Keep reading to learn more about Simon, who is called the "Mailman of the Century" online.

The dancing routine began a few years ago when Ava was still a baby. Simon shared with PennLive: "One of us started to do a little jig and we just keep on doing it now. She gets so excited. It's amazing." Even now that the mailman has gained popularity, he still stops his day to dance with Ava.
Ava's dad was the one who made the original TikTok that has gained so much attention. He said that Simon has become very important to the family. "It starts the day on the right foot," Dr. Whitlow shared. "He's really been just a sweet person, and he's made a huge difference during this kind of otherwise dark time."
Simon knows the value in the work he does and takes a lot of pride in being a mail carrier. "A lot of people depend on us through the weather, through this pandemic, through the fires and all the smoke, and rely on us to get their Christmas presents..." Simon told the news outlet. "I love my job."
On Dr. Whitlow's Instagram page, he shared an update on how far the video has gone. "Our video has been all over the world! I lost count of how many translations it has received," he wrote in the caption of a video that shows him reacting to different translations of his original TikTok.
On the Instagram post, one fan commented: "It's such a lovely friendship they have. As she gets older, she will always remember this." Another person added: "It's the best, and touches the human heart on every level. You cannot watch this and not smile."

But it turns out that the so-called mailman of the century isn't only dancing on his daily postal route. Since being catapulted into the spotlight, Simon has started a TikTok of his own, where he uploads videos of himself dancing! On his account he describes himself as:
"Just a guy slangin mail and moving feet. Shooting clips on my breaks."
Some of the videos feature Simon in his postal uniform, while others are filmed when he's off-duty, such as at the gym or outside in nature. From the clips he's uploaded, it's clear that not only does he enjoy dancing but he's very talented too! Some of the routines he pulls off appear choreographed with some knowledge of dance, suggesting that Simon might have even taken lessons before. Even if he hasn't, he sure dances often enough to be comfortable with taking risks in his routines. Overall Simon has shown that dancing is a lot of fun and life can be a lot more enjoyable when you don't take things so seriously.
However, Simon isn't the only mailman to have fun while he's on the job. Besides being integral to the functioning of society, postal workers and delivery drivers have shown that they have a lot of fun while they're working too. One delivery driver recently went viral when she delivered a package to a house and warned the residents about the dangers of not having any house numbers up — and she did it all through song! The moment was captured on the house's video doorbell camera and after it was uploaded it propelled her — and her integral message of clearly numbering your house — to fame.
