Madonna Criticized Over ‘Strange’ Choice To Wear Daring See-Through Outfit To Son’s Art Show

In October 2024, pop icon Madonna stepped out to support her son Rocco Ritchie at his art exhibition in Paris. The “Like A Virgin” hitmaker, 66, posted a carousel of images to her Instagram account, some detailing her 24-year-old son’s artwork. The exhibition was aptly named “The Tourist.” The first of Madonna’s series of posts featured her with her arms wrapped around Rocco’s waist in a proud maternal moment. The singer followed the images up with the caption:

“Escape to Paris to see my son Rocco’s exhibition ‘The Tourist’ and visit friends. Perfect antidote for sadness!”

Madonna is known for supporting her children in their artistic endeavors. She was also at Rocco’s “Pack a Punch” art exhibition in Miami earlier in the year, accompanied by her younger children. Back then, she also took to Instagram to celebrate his accomplishments. 

“So happy to have the night off to enjoy my son Rocco’s’s latest collection of paintings called ‘Pack A Punch’ inspired by Muay Thai fighters,” she wrote.

She is as doting with the young artist as she is with the rest of her brood, even taking to social media to shower him with love on his birthday with a heartwarming post. For the Paris exhibition, Madonna stepped out in a sheer black see-through, lingerie-inspired ensemble, coupled with a black leather and fur jacket, matching heels and a black purse.

While the spotlight was meant to be on her son, it was Madonna’s outfit choice that grabbed attention, with many netizens thinking she seriously missed the mark. Many thought the sheer ensemble was completely inappropriate, slamming the singer with their comments. 

Madonna is no stranger to controversy, much less controversial outfits. The “Like A Prayer” star has been known for pushing style boundaries for a long time. While some of her choices have impressed internet users, others have failed to have the same effect. Such can be said about the moment cameras captured the star at the Paris event. 

The singer was photographed on her way to the exhibition and back, while video footage captured her being escorted to the car, giving netizens multiple angles of her daring outfit. As she arrived at the exhibition venue, the singer added a heavy polka-dot scarf to the outfit. Many felt the outfit was a completely inappropriate one to wear to her son, Rocco’s event, with one user writing:

“It’s a very strange outfit for a mother son get together 💁‍♀️.” 

Another user also criticized the singer’s outfit, trying to put themselves in Rocco’s shoes. 

“She’s going out like that… I’d be mortified if I were here son with me mother dressed like that…a very short skirt etc is one thing, but what Madonna is wearing is something else,” they commented. 

Some observant social media users also noticed that the singer had not removed the tag from her clothing and pointed out the white tag still attached to the back of her dress.

“she forgot to take the tag off her clothes 🙈 ehhhhh… 😏 .”

Other comments were linked to controversial French fashion figure  Michèle Lamy, who could be seen in one of Madonna’s posts. One user commented:

“As I was watching this, my thoughts were, she is looking more and more like that creepy fashion lady. Then BOOM!💥 she walks up to her😢"

However, some fans came to her rescue amid all the vitriol, writing that the singer looked “bomb” and “can do no wrong.” One fan even defended the outfit, writing:

“I’m loving the outfit 😍.”

For better or worse, the “Material Girl” artist sure knows how to make an entrance.
