On September 14, 2020, Hamnett wrote on Twitter that if he received 10,000 retweets and £1,000 (approximately $1,292) in donations, he would do the ride on his daughter's bike to raise money for four Manchester-based charities.

It took six days for the father-of-two to finish the ride, which even took him up Shap Summit in Cumbria. Suffering several blown tires along the way, Hamnett initially planned to cycle from Russia to the UK on his road bike, but he started looking for a new challenge after he had to cancel that trip due to the COVID-19 pandemic, according to Manchester Evening News.

He had planned that challenge after losing his last surviving grandparent to cancer in 2019. "I had planned everything for my trip to Russia in September and had booked the flights," Wesley said. "I had done all my mapping and checked all the hotels but then the pandemic hit and I had to cancel my trip.

"I thought it was probably a good thing because I shouldn't have really been traveling during coronavirus, but I still wanted to do something."

Although the tweet has garnered just a little under 800 retweets to date, Hamnett borrowed the little pink bicycle and set off anyway. He started his journey on September 16 in Glasgow.

"I feel on top of the world that I've done it and I can see the family, but I do feel absolutely done in," he told LADbible.  But his daughters, Evie, 10, and Tehya, eight, are ecstatic by their dad's incredible effort. He continued: "They seem really happy and proud, they seem to be beaming with pride, I've never seen them smile so much."
