Macaulay Culkin Turns Forty And Knows Exactly The Way Fans Feel

Aug 27, 2020 by apost team

Macaulay Culkin is known to people the world over as the adorable yet mischievous Kevin McAllister, the little boy from the Home Alone movies from the '90s. And even though he grew up and continued working as an actor, albeit in more niche and alternative roles, he's never really shaken his image as the Home Alone kid.

Now, after turning 40, he's played up this association, joking about making his fans feel old — and we certainly do!

Culkin is no stranger to reliving his days as the young Kevin McCallister. Recently, he posted to his personal Twitter account with a very considered and subtly hilarious message to his fans, that poked fun at both himself and everyone else. The tweet said:

"Hey guys, wanna feel old?

I'm 40.

You're welcome."

Simple, yet effective. He even responded to his own tweet, adding

"It's my gift to the world: I make people feel old. I'm no longer a kid, that's my job."

Fans were quick to respond to his tweet, some poking fun at how old they truly feel now, with one writing:

"Damn it Macaulay. I'm only 23 I don't wanna feel old. Yet now I do."

Others turned their humor back at Culkin, responding with memes of him as Kevin McCallister.

Home Alone was released in 1990 when Macaulay was 10 years old. The Christmas comedy film was a huge success, earning a total gross of $476.7 million dollars, which made it the highest-grossing live-action comedy ever until it was overtaken by The Hangover, all the way in 2011.

For many, Home Alone was a key film from their childhood, which makes the realization that Culkin is now a fully-grown adult even more jarring.

But this is not the first time the actor has played into the humor of being grown-up nowadays — last year he starred in an ad for Google that saw Culkin revisiting the house from Home Alone as an adult. In it, a montage that's similar to the film plays out, where he has the house to himself, prompting him to reenact many of the things that Kevin had done as a kid. These include shaving, jumping on the bed, watching the same detective movie he watched in Home Alone, ordering pizza, and more, but updated to include modern conveniences such as digital payments and digital assistants.

It's nice to know that even after all these years, Macaulay Culkin is one actor who doesn't mind having a laugh and is willing to extend that to his fans. After all, since many of us grew up watching and identifying with his character, it makes us all the more nostalgic to get updates and see what he's up to.
