Macaulay Culkin Is Back In The Spotlight And Expresses His Love & Gratitude To Fiancée Brenda Song With Emotional Speech

Macaulay Culkin is known to people the world over as the adorable yet mischievous Kevin McAllister, the little boy from the "Home Alone" movies from the '90s. And even though he grew up and continued working as an actor, albeit in more niche and alternative roles, he's never really shaken his image as the "Home Alone" kid. 

Culkin was just ten years old when he starred in the first "Home Alone" movie, which was released in 1990. The Christmas comedy film was a huge success and earned a total gross of $476.7 million dollars, which made it the highest-grossing live-action comedy ever until it was overtaken by "The Hangover," all the way in 2011. 

Aside from the holiday film, which many people loved and adored, he also became successful with other movies such as “My Girl,” “The Good Son,” “Uncle Buck,” and many more. He was so in demand at the time that he starred in several movies within the span of a few years.

Even though many would perceive him as a successful person financially, he had problems with his personal life that the public didn’t know about until much later in his career.

His parents, who had never married, separated, and his mother filed for full custody. There was a heavily publicized spat between the star and his parents over his earnings that had gone into a trust fund and were worth almost $20 million.

Later in life, he got engaged to actress Brenda Song, and he got emotional when he addressed her during a speech at a very important event of his career. Read on below to find out what he had to say about his lover. 

Macaulay Culkin and Brenda Song’s love story began in 2017, but they first met on the set of the sitcom “Dads.” During an episode of the actor’s “Bunny Ears” podcast in 2018, he revealed that Song initially brushed him off.

As reported by Today in 2023, the former Disney Channel actress noted that she was “focused,” which is why she didn’t pay that much attention to her future lover. She later joked that the actor’s “man bun” turned her off.

In 2017, the couple worked on the movie “Changeland.” At the time, People Magazine reported that the couple were seen on a night out in West Hollywood, and it was the beginning of their romantic relationship.

When asked by Us Weekly Magazine about her love life with the actor in 2018, Song hinted that everything was going well for the two of them, briefly replying: “It’s great!... I don’t like to talk about my personal life, but everything’s wonderful and I’m happy.”

In a cover story for Esquire Magazine in 2020, Culkin revealed that he and his girlfriend at the time were trying for a baby, and he joked that both of them “practice a lot.”

“We’re figuring it out, making the timing work,” he added. 

Then, finally, in 2021, the couple welcomed their first baby, a boy whom they named Dakota Song Culkin. He was born in April of that year in Los Angeles, California.

The reason why they chose the name Dakota was to honor the actor’s late sister of the same name, who passed away in 2008.

Engagement rumors began swirling in January 2022 as Song was spotted wearing what appeared to be an engagement ring when she was seen in public at the time. She later spoke to People Magazine about their wedding plans, and it seemed like she was having a hard time as they also had to prioritize their baby.

“Wedding planning is so expensive and it takes up so much time… Being a new mom, we’re so busy,” she said. 

The couple then welcomed their second baby in December 2022.

Regarding their parental skills, Song noted in an interview with The Cut that both she and her fiancé are “very hands-on.” Although they don’t have a nanny, she clarified that her mom had been helping them since the first baby was born.

In December 2023, Macaulay Culkin received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, where he, his fiancé, and two children made their first-ever public appearance. The name of Culkin and Song's second child has not been confirmed so far.

During his speech, the actor teared up as he expressed his gratitude to Song.

“I'd like to thank Brenda… You are absolutely everything. You're my champion. You're the only person happier for me today than I am,” he said, as seen in a video shared by Entertainment Tonight on Instagram.

He added that not only was she the best woman he had ever known, but she was also the best person in his life.

"You've given me just all my purpose, you've given me family. After the birth of our two boys you've become my three favorite people… I love you so much,” he added, while crying.
