"Love Conquers All" Says African-American Family That Just Adopted A White Baby

The Baldwins of North Carolina were just a typical family of five when they got a call that changed their lives forever. Keia Jones-Baldwin says that it all started when she received a call from a foster care agency asking if she could help with a premature infant named Princeton who was severely underweight and needed someone to hold and nurture him. Keia gladly took the assignment, and began going to hold the premature baby every day.
Keia and her husband Ricardo had been talking about the possibility of adopting a child to be a sibling for their three kids: Jarleigh, Zariyah and Ayden. Even though their initial discussions did not include talk of adopting a newborn, Keia was falling in love with tiny Princeton. Her daily visits were helping the premature infant to thrive. As his actual mom was a drug addict who was unable to care for her newborn son, the Baldwins decided to adopt Princeton.
Unfortunately, the Baldwin Family says they have had several instances where the police have been called in because someone thought that Princeton had been kidnapped. Keia and Ricardo make sure that they have Princeton’s adoption papers whenever they go out to prove they are his legal parents.

“We get a lot of stares,” Keia told TODAY. “I’m frequently asked if I’m Princeton’s babysitter. ... I get, 'Why didn't you let him stay with a family of his own race?'"
Despite these frustrating setbacks, Keia and Ricardo say their lives are so much richer with the addition of Princeton. They are glad that Princeton is a happy and well-adjusted boy who is fun to be around end enjoys smooches from his new family.
