"Take Me Home, Country Roads" is such an iconic song written and sung by the legendary John Denver. Recently, a video surfaced of this song performed by not only Denver himself but also Johnny Cash. Two very different voices singing this beloved song is indeed something very special.

Whether you are a fan of John Denver, like me, or a fan of the great Johnny Cash, or perhaps both, you don't want to miss this treat.

The performance was filmed about 42 years ago, if you can imagine. This once in a lifetime event was possibly filmed for a 1977 John Denver television special called "Thank God I'm a Country Boy."

Some little known trivia: the song ". . . Country Roads" was originally written for Johnny Cash to perform. However, upon reflection, Denver decided he liked the song so much that he wanted to record it himself! When watching the video, you can tell how much both legendary artists enjoyed performing this song together.

They are facing each other in an outdoor setting, both strumming their guitars and smiling and singing and so obviously having a great time.

With John Denver's tenor voice mixing with Johnny Cash's gravelly base, the harmonies and totally different tones really do work well together. After listening to this song, it might make you nostalgic and want to go seek out other live performances of the two artists. However, no doubt this is the only time the two of them had ever publicly sung together.

If you have friends who are fans of John Denver or Johnny Cash (or both) be sure to tell them about this long lost footage. I'm sure they will be quite excited to listen and watch. Close your eyes and have another listen and perhaps those country roads will take you back home again!
