Little Bulldog Puppy's Tantrum Earned Widespread Renown

Human moms are accustomed to the occasional backtalk and tantrums from headstrong, independent children, right? When tiny people get big personalities, it can be unnerving, unsettling, and leave you completely perplexed as to whether you should laugh, cry, discipline, or pat them on the back for standing their ground. This viral video of Patches and Elvis, a bulldog mom and pup, proves that animal parents face the same predicament.

As Patches attends to her young bulldog pup, Elvis, their human mom films the duo interacting. It’s clear from the start that Elvis is one of those headstrong, independent pups. He’s strong, active, energetic, and displays a vibrant personality all of his own. He clearly loves mom, but he wants his space and isn’t afraid to vocalize it.

You immediately fall in love with this feisty fella, who got his name because of a cleft lip creating an Elvis-like sneer. His human mom immediately bonded with Elvis, too. She had to bottle feed him up to solids.

The video starts out with Patches and Elvis on a rug in the middle of a room. Elvis is trying to go somewhere, and Patches doesn’t think that’s best thing to do at the moment. She gently nudges him, and that sets Elvis off. Elvis has something to say about the interference from mom. He quietly growls his displeasure, which soon sounds like a constant bird chirping noise.

Elvis wants his space to roam and wander, and he’s not so happy about mom thinking that’s not the best idea. Patches, like any mom, is being a little overprotective. In his mind, he’s a big enough boy to explore a little.

When Patches gets a little more adamant with her stay here directive by putting her paw on Elvis’s face, that’s when his mouthy behavior really takes off. He throws a growling, howling tantrum of epic proportions. Mom is taken aback by the forcefulness of it all. At one point, she even heads over to her human mom as if she’s asking for advice on the situation.

Patches goes back over to her feisty son to ask for forgiveness with even more mothering. He’s worked up to the point of falling over himself, but she’s got the calming touch of a natural-born mom.

She begins to let him know with licks how much he’s loved and adored. It seems to work to deescalate the young pup’s tantrum as he weaves and rubs against her, albeit still gently growling his opinion on the whole situation.

Like humans, Patches is learning the best way to parent her pup in the video. Love, protection, room to grow, listening versus directing... it’s all a learning curve of parental balance.
