Lisa Marie Presley’s Daughter, Riley Keough, Lives Up To Her Family’s Musical Legacy In New TV Show

As the granddaughter of Elvis Presley, Riley Keough knows what it’s like to be in the spotlight. With her granddad, mother and father all having made inroads in the music industry, one would have thought Riley would follow the same road. However, Keough instead pursued another avenue in the entertainment business and has since found success along the way.
Born on May 29, 1989, in Santa Monica, California, Riley’s life took a tumultuous turn at the age of 6 when her parents divorced. While she admitted her life with her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, was comfortable, she also appreciated the less luxurious lifestyle of her musician father, Danny Keough.
By 15, she was running the catwalks for top fashion houses before steadily building a name in acting for herself with well-received turns in films such as “The Runaways,” “Magic Mike,” “Mad Max: Fury Road” “Logan Lucky” and “Zola.” Despite being lauded for her natural onscreen charm, Riley admitted she was initially plagued by the fear of being seen as a “nepo baby,” which was subsequently masked as she threaded the independent scene with films and other underground work.
Following Lisa Marie’s death, Keough experienced a shot of fame that she has since referred to as “cosmic,” as she was announced to play Daisy Jones in the Amazon Prime series adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid's book “Daisy Jones & The Six.”
Keough has been largely credited for carving her own path for herself as she tried to make her own name in the entertainment industry. She has since been lauded for her outstanding performance on the show, which led many to believe that she is the perfect successor to her mother and even to her grandfather, The King of Rock and Roll, Elvis.
Playing the titular character on “Daisy Jones & The Six,” Keough jokingly admitted that she had to “lie” to get the role she has now embraced and celebrated.
"I think I blacked out on that meeting. I don't really remember what happened," Keough confessed. "And then I auditioned like everybody else and lied to them and told them l could sing."
Keogh ultimately landed the role and revealed that she fell in love with the book just like everyone did. The story of “Daisy Jones & The Six” was largely inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s story and its eventual breakup.
Lindsey Buckingham, one of the former members of the band, even alluded to the revived conversations about Fleetwood Mac following the meteoric rise of “Daisy Jones & The Six” in popular media.
Since the show had been made available online, it was a monumental success, with many lauding Keough for her incredible performance and vocal chops that many said she inherited from her mother and grandfather.
Growing up, Keough lived under immense pressure from the spotlight. At the age of 13 years old, she already called Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage her stepfathers following her mother's various marriages.
“I grew up with a family that was very much in the public eye, and my childhood was really intense in that way, especially in the ’90s and early 2000s,” she told Vanity Fair.
While Keough never entered the music industry like her mother and grandfather, she has related to Daisy Jones more than anyone would have thought.

In the series, Keough’s Daisy Jones suffers from substance abuse, a thing she revealed to Porter Magazine that she wanted to have a “thoughtful and appropriate” portrayal of because this was something that she had experienced in her own family.
“I wanted the moments in which you see Daisy’s addiction to not feel glamorous; to make sure that those moments had weight to them; that we’re seeing the humanity behind the closed doors of what people are perceiving to be glamour,” she added.
Apart from dealing with substance abuse with sensitivity, a huge part of Keough’s storyline was about an absentee mother. Although she confidently said that she did not experience that personally, she claimed to have seen the dynamic with a few people in her life, which she described as “totally heartbreaking.”
“Some people are lucky to have mothers that are very nurturing and loving, and some people aren’t. That is a place of great wound when either parent isn’t showing up in the way that the child wants them to,” she explained to Vanity Fair.
The statement came on the heels of the brewing legal battle between Keough and her grandmother, Priscilla Presley, as the latter challenges the “validity and authenticity” of Lisa Marie’s will in court, which determines the owners of Graceland. She is claiming that a 2016 amendment that lynched her out of the will was forged, The Evening Standard reported.
As of this writing, Keough has not publicly commented about the ongoing legal proceedings between her and Priscilla. But whether Keough loses the legal battle about the ownership of Graceland or not, one thing is for certain – Keough’s artistry and creativity are reminiscent of her grandfather, making her the perfect person to continue Elvis' legacy.
