Lisa Marie Presley Moved To Tears At Golden Globes By Austin Butler’s Acceptance Speech Two Days Before Her Passing

Born on Feb. 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, to parents Elvis and Priscilla Presley, Lisa Marie Presley was one of the biggest celebrity children upon her birth. However, she passed at the age of 54 on Jan. 12, 2022, after being rushed to the emergency room when she was found unresponsive in her California home.
Lisa Marie was born exactly nine months after her parents famously tied the knot in a brief ceremony in their suite at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. After Elvis’s death in 1977, she was listed as a beneficiary on her father’s last will, along with her grandfather Vernon and greatest-grandmother Minnie. However, Vernon passed in 1979, and Minnie a year after. This made Lisa Marie the only surviving beneficiary of Elvis’s trust. In 1993, she inherited her father’s estate, which had grown to $100 million.
She was the only daughter of Elvis, which means that her four children were his only grandchildren. Lisa Marie had actress Riley Keough and her late son Benjamin Keough with her ex-husband Danny Keough while she shared her twins, Harper and Finley, with her estranged and divorced husband, Michael Lockwood. She was also famously married to popstar Michael Jackson and actor Nicolas Cage.
Following in the footsteps of her father, Lisa Marie ventured into the music business, releasing a few albums and some songs. Aside from her musical career, Lisa Marie also devoted her life to humanitarian efforts through the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation.
In her last public appearance just two days before her passing, Lisa Marie attended the Golden Globes ceremony with her mother as the film biopic about her legendary father, “Elvis,” had been nominated for three awards. Read on to find out what brought her and her mother to tears during the event.

According to TMZ sources close to the scene, Lisa Marie was pronounced dead after she was rushed to a Los Angeles hospital, where she was taken after suffering cardiac arrest.
Her housekeeper had found her unresponsive in her Calabasas, California, residence. Her ex-husband Keough was present at the scene and performed CPR on her until emergency first responders arrived. At least one dose of epinephrine was administered while attempts at resuscitating her were being made.
Paramedics were reported to have regained a pulse before she was transported to the hospital.
A representative for Priscilla issued a statement on her Facebook page, which read:
“My beloved daughter Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital. She is now receiving the best care. Please keep her and our family in your prayers. We feel the prayers from around the world, and ask for privacy during this time.”
In another statement to the outlet, Priscilla’s representatives said the family was “shocked” and “devastated” by the tragic death of Lisa Marie. It said they were also “profoundly grateful” for the support, love, and prayers of their fans and urged for privacy during this time.
Lisa Marie’s passing comes about seven months after Baz Luhrmann’s big-budget biopic about her father, “Elvis,” was released in cinemas in the United States. The film generated a lot of buzz due to Luhrmann’s participation in the project, as well as both Lisa Marie and Priscilla’s involvement in the production as well. Lisa Marie praised the film highly in an Instagram post, saying:
“I have seen Baz Luhrmann’s movie ‘Elvis’ twice now, and let me tell you that it is nothing short of spectacular. Absolutely exquisite. Austin Butler channeled and embodied my father’s heart and soul beautifully. In my humble opinion, his performance is unprecedented and FINALLY done accurately and respectfully.”

Lisa Marie’s sentiments were echoed by the Hollywood Foreign Press when it bestowed the Golden Globe award for Best Actor in a Drama Motion Picture on Jan. 10, 2023, for his portrayal of “The King of Rock & Roll.” After his name was revealed as the winner, Butler hugged Luhrmann and his sister, whom he had brought as his date, before blowing a kiss toward Priscilla and Lisa Marie, who were present at the ceremony.
Priscilla and Lisa Marie watched intently as Butler took to the stage to receive his award and give his acceptance speech.
“I owe this to a bold, visionary filmmaker who allowed me the experience to take risks and I always knew I would be supported. I love you, Baz Luhrmann. Thank you for believing in me in those moments that I didn’t even believe in myself. I’m so grateful to you. I also want to thank my dance partner, the greatest dance partner I could have ever hoped for, Mr. Tom Hanks,” Butler said, before things took an even more emotional turn.
With his voice dropping low, Butler turned to look directly at Priscilla and Lisa Marie as he paid tribute to them.
“And the Presley family. Thank you guys. Thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me. Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I love you forever,” Butler said, as the camera showed a visibly emotional Lisa Marie moving her hands up to her face and Priscilla tapping her heart with her hand.
As the music played to cue Butler on his time being up, he said jokingly, “You could at least play ‘Suspicious Minds’ or something.”
Elvis’s legacy long survived his passing and we’re sure his only daughter, Lisa Marie, will not be as easily forgotten either.
