Known for movies like “Taken” and “Excalibur,” at 72 years old, Neeson has had a career that has spanned over four decades, transitioning from dramatic roles to becoming an unexpected global action icon. For 50 years, he has graced our screens, becoming one of Hollywood’s most celebrated entertainers. 

The Irish actor began acting on stage before transitioning to film in the 1980s. Early roles in movies like “Excalibur” established him as a versatile actor, but his powerful portrayal in Steven Spielberg’s “Schindler’s List” cemented him as a Hollywood heavyweight. The “Taken” movie franchise blew up Liam Neeson’s career, and many still know him for his role in the movie. However, he acknowledged that even the most remarkable careers end and his body may be unable to keep up with the death-defying stunts and high-speed chases that action movies are known for. The actor discussed this new phase of his life with People magazine in October 2024. 

“I’m 72 — it has to stop at some stage,” Neeson said. “You can’t fool audiences. I don’t want Mark to be fighting my fight scenes for me.” 

As to when the curtain will fall on his impressive career, the actor hasn’t set a date yet but thinks it will probably happen in 2025. 

“Maybe the end of next year. I think that’s it,” he said.

However, stepping away from action movies does not mean the Irish actor is leaving Hollywood altogether. He recently starred in the police comedy film, “The Naked Gun” alongside Pamela Anderson. Looking back on the experience with the humility that he’s known and loved for, the actor commented:

“Whether I can carry it or not, I honestly don’t know.”

But his co-star Anderson gave her assurance that Neeson’s talent extended beyond action films, and despite him doubting his comedic skills, he certainly possesses them.

“He’s being humble,” she said, adding it “was hard to keep a straight face in scenes together.”
