Country music group Lady Antebellum came together via video call on Wednesday evening to perform Islands in the Stream on CMT's "GIANTS Kenny Rogers: A Benefit for MusiCares" which raised money for COVID-19 relief.
Kenny Rogers died from natural causes last month. Many stars have been hit hard by his death. His music had a great influence on country and pop singers alike. Dolly Parton recently shared a moving post on Instagram about her grief in losing him. She said:
“You never know how much you love somebody until they’re gone. I’ve had so many wonderful years and wonderful times with my friend Kenny, but above all the music and the success I loved him as a wonderful man and a true friend.”

Islands in the Stream was Kenny’s first duet with Dolly. They recorded the song in 1983 and it was a smash hit, hitting number one on the charts.
Kenny and Dolly won single of the year from the song at the Academy of Country Music Awards. The song’s popularity furthered Dolly and Kenny collaborating over the years.
Country music group Lady Antebellum came together via video call on Wednesday evening and performed a cover of the song.
Isolation is clearly not stopping the group from creating beautiful music together as they sang for CMT's "GIANTS Kenny Rogers: A Benefit for MusiCares" which raised money for COVID-19 relief.
One viewer wrote: "R.I.P. Kenny. Feeling Hillary's energy in this cut. Great tribute to a legend. Well done!"
Another person commented: "I can't stop crying right now this cover is so beautiful. I can't believe Kenny is gone. Rest in peace, Gambler."
Islands in the Stream has been covered over 50 times by other artists and it has even been re-mastered in different languages and genres. This popularity has allowed most people to know the song even if they don't know who Kenny Rogers is or never listened to his songs.
Lady Antebellum created a performance that could let everyone escape from this period of uncertainty for just a little while and honor a country music legend at the same time.
