Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are two American actors who have been in a relationship since 2009. The couple got married in 2013, and their wedding ceremony may surprise you. As celebrities, Bell and Shepard didn’t want all the glitz and glamour, so they went with something much more understated. What matters is that they dedicated their lives to one another and have been together since. They have two daughters, Lincoln and Delta.

Bell was born July 18, 1980, in Huntington Woods, Michigan. She attended Shrine Catholic High School in Royal Oak, Michigan, and performed in several plays throughout her time there. After graduation, Bell attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts but left before receiving her degree because she was cast in a Broadway production. Her career took off when she was cast in the lead role on “Veronica Mars.” The series is still what she is most known for.

Shepard was born in Highland Township, Michigan, on Jan. 2, 1975. From the time he was 14 until he graduated high school, Shepard worked for his mother, who managed publicity events for General Motors. He got to go on the road with his mom and visit racetracks. He got his big break working on the show “Punk’d” with Ashton Kutcher.

Since marrying each other in 2013, Bell and Shepard have been amazing parents to their two daughters, Lincoln and Delta. The two have been very upfront about their rather unconventional parenting skills, even going as much as sharing with the world their own ways on how to raise children. In a 2023 panel talk on SXSW, the couple gushed about how they value parenting. Read on to learn more about Shepard and Bell’s parenting techniques and tricks!

The couple has been married for nearly 10 years, and together, they have two daughters — Lincoln, 9, and Delta, 8. They've even carried over the no-nonsense approach they have in their marriage to parenthood. Bell and Shepard revealed one parenting strategy that they use is to wait it out when their daughters are throwing tantrums before they start talking to them as a way of discipline.

“We wait until they calm down, and then we talk to them,” the mom of two said.

The couple also has a rule when it comes to arguing in the presence of their daughters: They would make up in front of them, too. According to HuffPost, during an episode of The Motherly Podcast that was released in March 2020, Bell revealed that Shepard made her promise that they would always say sorry to each other and reconcile in front of the girls.

“He said, ‘Let’s make a deal that if we ever make up when we’re behind closed doors, that we role-play the next morning,’” the actress said during her appearance on the podcast.

Bell added that she and her husband would then proceed to kiss and hug if the children were within earshot. The couple's low-key approach to marriage and parenting speaks a lot to how they are as people and makes their relationship more relatable than the average celebrity one.

The “Frozen” actress also said in an interview with Real Simple that she even talks about very honest and candid conversations with her children – going as much as discussing the idea of their father’s tumultuous battle with addiction and even talking about sex in their young ages.

Speaking to Real Simple, Bell said that she wanted to strike the word “taboo” from the dictionary, saying there is no such thing as that in their household.

"There should be no topic that's off the table for people to talk about. I know it's shocking, but I talk to my kids about drugs and the fact that their daddy is an addict, and he's in recovery, and we talk about sex," she explained. "There are all these 'hard topics' that don't have to be if you give the person on the other end your vulnerability and a little bit of credit.”

Shepard and Bell are considered one of the coolest couples in Hollywood. However, things don’t always come together in their household.

"We disagree about 99% of the things on earth, which is just fun and interesting. I often feel underqualified, whether for an acting scene or a parenting moment,” she furthered before elaborating that being communicative and vulnerable are their secrets in making parenting work for both them and their kids.

Behind all their agreements and eventual conflicts, the two have remained positive in their outlook on parenting. In a panel talk at the 2023 SXSW Festival, Shepard and Bell gushed about the idea of parenting and how it has significantly become a part of them in the process.

"When I have failures in life, I get to come home and still be (a) dad. It is the most transformative experience. You can feel it's why you are here,” he told InStyle. “Nothing compares to being a dad. It is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me."

Bell echoed his husband’s sentiments, adding that seeing their two girls play together gave her “pure joy” and even describing the process of being pregnant as “awesome.”
