Kirk Cameron was a teenage heartthrob in his early days. He started acting when he was 9 and gained national prominence as a 14-year-old with his time as Mike Seaver in "Growing Pains," which ran from 1985 to 1992. Kirk became every teenage girl's dream, and his poster was up in many rooms.
At the height of his career in Hollywood, Kirk made a life-changing decision. The then 17-year-old, who had previously prided himself on being an atheist, went to church with a friend's dad and found religion. Shortly after this, he married his co-star in "Growing Pains," Chelsea Noble. Kirk was 20 at this time but has said it was the best decision he ever made.
The couple worked together a lot and made it a point to pray together over the years to keep their relationship strong. They also communicated effectively whenever there was a misunderstanding. In 2015, Kirk said during their 24th wedding anniversary that God gave him a bigger gift than he deserved in the form of Noble.
Kirk and Noble are parents to six children, four of whom are adopted. The pair adopted their first four children: Jack Cameron, Isabella Cameron, Ahna Cameron and Luke Cameron, before welcoming their two biological children: Olivia Cameron and James Cameron.
The couple raised their children with love, and their kids have often spoken about it. They are also in awe of their dad's devotion to his family. This followed a revelation by the "Growing Pains" actor to Today on Sept. 22, 2008, that he vowed not to kiss any woman besides his wife of 31 years. Continue reading to know why he said that.
Kirk is often considered controversial because of his faith and political views. He is an outspoken Evangelical Christian who hasn't shied away from condemning the public school system, sharing his views on the LGBTQ community and supporting Donald Trump.
The 52-year-old also referred to himself as a "Hollywood Freak."
"I'm kind of a Hollywood freak. I didn't really turn out the way most people turn out growing up in this industry," he said per Religion News.
Indeed, Kirk didn't turn out the way most of his peers in Hollywood did. From being a teen idol renowned for his role in a popular TV show, the actor transitioned to making faith-based content, often seen on his Instagram page. He has also written books for children and adults and teaches believers how to model their marriages after the Bible.
The "Unstoppable" actor taught that people should “worry more about their own responsibilities than their spouses.” Shortly after, his sister, Cameron Candace Bure, also spoke about how submission and meekness work in her marriage.
"It is strength under control, it is bridled strength. And that's what I choose to have in my marriage," Bure wrote in her book, "Balancing It All: My Story of Juggling Priorities and Purpose."
Despite the criticisms Kirk has faced over the years, he is unfazed and doesn't care that some in Hollywood despise his conservative values. He continues to make a case for everything he believes in, including speaking about how technology affects children. Through his 2018 film "CONNECT," he asked parents to set boundaries on technology use for their children.
"I want to protect my kids too. There are ways that we must protect our kids, but the real battle is the battle for the heart," he said in an interview at the time.

Kirk's marriage and family mean a lot to him. He told Today on Sept. 22, 2008, that he vowed not to kiss any woman besides his wife of 31 years. This disclosure followed the filming of "Fireproof," where Kirk needed to kiss co-star Erin Bethea in the movie and refused.
"I have a commitment not to kiss any other woman," he told Today, "So when I'm kissing my wife, we're actually husband and wife honoring marriage behind the scenes."
Eventually, Kirk kissed Noble, who was dressed like Bethea's character, in silhouette.
Kirk and Noble once disclosed that they treat their children the same. Noble shared that she and her brother were adopted and decided to adopt first to let their kids know they were not the second choice. In their interview with EWTN on March 8, 2019, Noble said of adoption:
"Once a baby is placed in your arms, or a child of any age, and you're their mom or their dad, I just think there's a special bond that does come straight from God. It doesn't necessarily come from your body."
While discussing raising biological and adopted kids together, the actress added:
"We always said, you sort of forget who's adopted and who's not adopted."
Kirk and Noble's kids have stuck close to each other despite their racial and biological differences. The couple’s kids are proud of Kirk and don’t hide their admiration for him. On June 18, 2023, Ahna celebrated Father’s Day with a heartwarming tribute to her dad. She shared a picture of herself and Kirk and captioned it:
“happy father’s day to @kirkcameronofficial. you have the wonderful ability to encourage, make people smile, & create revival in people’s homes. i’m constantly proud of you and your love for God first, then our family, then people. xox.”
Hopefully, the Cameron family will experience more such beautiful moments.
