Kelly Clarkson is a remarkable American singer who has been rocking the music world for over two decades. The vocal powerhouse has released countless songs as her career keeps soaring. Some of her record-breaking songs include: "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)," "Since U Been Gone," "Walk Away," "Piece By Piece" and many more.
Aside from being a driving force in the music world, Clarkson is also a loving mother to two adorable children, a son, Remy, and a daughter, River. The “American Idol” alum's children joined her on stage for a duet during her Planet Hollywood show on Aug. 19, 2023, in Las Vegas, and it was nothing short of adorable. The award-winning singer shares her two gorgeous children with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
Clarkson's marital life was not a secret to the public. The American sweetheart filed for divorce from Blackstock on June 4, 2020, after being married for nearly seven years. According to the paperwork Clarkson filed, she stated they had "irreconcilable differences." The classification on the case cited "dissolution with minor children."
Several months after filing for the divorce, the court granted Clarkson primary custody of their two kids in December 2020. However, both Clarkson and Blackstock have joint physical and legal custody of their kids. The Us Weekly paperwork documents obtained stated:
"The court finds that under the circumstances present in this case, the interest in providing stability and continuity for the minor children wights in favor of Petitioner having primary custody."
After the divorce and getting primary custody, Clarkson addressed her personal life events during "The Kelly Clarkson Show” first episode, which aired in September 2020. She shared that 2020 "brought a lot of change also to my personal life."
Clarkson's divorce from Blackstock took a toll on her career. In September 2022, the artist talked about how it was being a solo working parent. The host had to adjust her talk show, "The Kelly Clarkson Show," so she could spend time with her kids. She shared that through therapy, she learned how to teach her kids to express empathy and that it was okay "if they see you cry."
Clarkson has always written about her personal life experiences in her songs. In the wake of her divorce in June 2023, the singer-songwriter released an album, "Chemistry." The new album addressed almost everything about her relationship with Blackstock. However, there were some things she could not sing about.
Before the release of the album, Clarkson appeared on Today on June 22, 2023, to speak with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager. The singer shared at that time that she wrote several songs for the album but could not release them because they were too personal, and she had to think, "what's appropriate?" She added:
"There's plenty that I will never talk about because you shouldn't, and that's a personal thing between me and my ex and also me and my children, that relationship."
The "Stronger" singer shared that she was not sure Blackstock would listen to the songs or care about them. Although the singer was not sure if her ex would care about the personal things revealed in the album, she revealed that they had a text about the record. She added that the text read:
"Hey, I didn't mean to just diminish us down to one (thing) ... It's all in there, the ride. The beauty is in there, as well. Now, there's a lot of pain, but that's what happens, for all of us."
