Kelly Clarkson Channels The Beach Boys To Perform 'Kokomo'—With John Stamos On Bongos

Last Thursday, John Stamos appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to pay homage to The Beach Boys as part of the daytime talk show’s “Kellyoke” segment by covering the band’s 1980s hit Kokomo.
The Kelly Clarkson Show’s Kellyoke series, which has since moved online due to the coronavirus pandemic, features the singer as she covers musical hits from Elvis Presley’s Can’t Help Falling In Love to more contemporary tracks such as Selena Gomez’s Lose You To Love Me. Clarkson’s most recent Kellyoke invited Full House star John Stamos to join in on a cover of Kokomo. And as a long-time Beach Boys fan and collaborator, Stamos seemed to be the right man for the job.
Not only has Stamos played with the famed Beach Boys since the 1980s, but he also played the congo drums for the original Kokomo music video when it came out in 1988, according to Today.

"You can't cover @TheBeachBoys without @JohnStamos! 🙌," the Kelly Clarkson Show wrote on social media. "Grab your shades — today's QUARaoke is whisking us away to sunnier shores 😎."
Despite having to perform separately due to current coronavirus restrictions, Stamos, Clarkson and their accompanying band seemed to have a good time throughout the performance, which showcased a beachy theme with shots of the ocean, plenty of Hawaiian shirts and lots of fun summer-themed graphics.
"Thank you so much to John Stamos on percussion," Clarkson says as the video ends. "That was so cool of you to join us, man. I have loved you since Full House days. That was so cool!"
In a Rolling Stone interview from last month, The Beach Boys’ current frontman, Mike Love, spoke to Stamos’ most recent collaboration with the band: the quarantine charity song This Too Shall Pass. “He loves the Beach Boys, and has all his life,” Love said of Stamos at the time.
The song, which Love wrote while self-isolating in Lake Tahoe, was recorded in seven different locations due to the outbreak and current lockdown restrictions, Love explains in the interview.
“So everybody had their own home studio setups and everything. It was really weird, but it sounds like we’re all together, and I think it came out great. I’m really happy about it, and people are loving it,” Love told Rolling Stone.
As for the full house actor, Stamos stuck to his preferred instrument on the track, playing drums on the COVID-19–themed track. Fans can watch the song’s music video—which features footage of each collaborator playing their individual parts—on Love’s YouTube channel. According to the video’s description, all of the song's royalties will go to the Feeding America’s COVID-19 Response Fund, which supports food banks and communities across the country who’ve been affected by the outbreak.
