2024 marked the 20th anniversary of ABC Studios’ hit drama, “Desperate Housewives.” Starring Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Teri Hatcher, the show revolved around the intertwined lives of close-knit housewives living the suburban life on Wisteria Lane. “Desperate Housewives” aired from 2004 to 2012, thrilling viewers with eight unforgettable seasons and a group of very interesting housewives.
The show followed their chaotic lives, the undoing of their picture-perfect families and most importantly, the circumstances and friendships that bound them together. Two decades later, the ladies of Wisteria Lane have gone their separate ways and taken on various other projects.
The impact of “Desperate Housewives” on the cultural landscape cannot be overstated. The show is credited with giving its viewers complex female characters whose character depth went beyond face value. It also transcended trope boundaries, giving us drama, mystery, crime, romance and comedy, all in one wildly entertaining show. To this day, it remains one of the most watched and critically acclaimed shows from ABC Studios.
However, time has changed the lives of the four main cast members, and now we get to reminisce on the show by finding out what Longoria, Huffman, Cross and Hatcher have been up to in the years since the series finale of “Desperate Housewives.” From grieving the loss of loved ones and getting caught on the wrong side of the law to bravely fighting health battles, let’s catch up with our favorite “Desperate Housewives.”
Marcia Cross as Bree Van De Kamp
Juilliard alum Cross made her acting debut in 1984 in the soap opera “The Edge of Night.” Shows such as “Another World,” “Melrose Place” and “One Life to Live” catapulted her into the spotlight. Cross previously lost her fiancé to a brain tumor. Still, the actress, who turned 62 in 2024, eventually found love with stockbroker Tom Mahoney, with whom she had her twin daughters Savannah and Eden Mahoney. However, Tom was diagnosed with cancer and fortunately went into remission – only for Cross to be diagnosed with anal cancer afterward. Thankfully, she recovered fully in 2018, sharing in an interview:
“I’m doing great. I feel back to normal although it’s a new normal. I don’t think I’ll ever take it for granted. I’m so grateful.”
Today, the actress advocates to destigmatize anal cancer and end the shame around it.
Felicity Huffman as Lynette Scavo
Huffman, who turned 62 in 2024, attained plenty of success from the hit show, even earning herself an Emmy award. However, in recent years, her name was tarnished in the college admissions scandal for which she pleaded guilty, was fined and spent 11 days in jail. Reflecting on it, Huffman commented:
“I think the people I owe a debt and apology to is the academic community. And to the students and the families that sacrifice and work really hard to get to where they are going legitimately.”
These days, Huffman’s focus is on a non-profit organization that helps the formerly incarcerated reintegrate into society.
Teri Hatcher as Susan Mayer
Hatcher made a name for herself in “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman.” Hatcher was just 40 when “Desperate Housewives” premiered. She has a daughter, Emerson Tenney, whom she shares with ex-husband Jon Tenney. Since the end of the show, she has opened up about her private life, including her miscarriage while trying for a second child. The actress, who turned 60 in 2024, once revealed she tried to find love again – humorously reflecting on getting kicked off Hinge – but has since decided to give up on dating. She has no regrets about this decision, saying:
“Rather than pining away, I’ve chosen to just put a lot of effort into the life I want to live.”
Eva Longoria as Gabrielle Solis
Of all the characters she’s played, Longoria is perhaps most known as Gabrielle Solis. The actress, who turned 49 in 2024, has also starred in “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Beverly Hills 90210.” Longoria was only 29 when “Desperate Housewives” aired. She has been married three times – including to basketball player Tony Parker, whom she divorced, citing irreconcilable differences. After that, she married producer José Bastón, and they have one child together. She is also a stepmother to his three children. The actress and producer opened up about her wedded bliss, saying:
“People get really annoyed with us because we love each other so much.”
Our favorite ladies of Wisteria Lane have come so far and overcome so much, and we couldn’t be prouder!
