Ke Huy Quan’s Reunion With Harrison Ford & Brendan Fraser At The Oscars Will Make You Emotional

If you are a big “Indiana Jones” fan, you would probably faintly recognize Ke Huy Quan, who made a huge comeback in the 2022 film “Everything Everywhere All At Once” with Michelle Yeoh and Jamie Lee Curtis. 

Quan, a Vietnamese-American actor, made his film debut in the Steven Spielberg-directed film “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” with well-renowned actor Harrison Ford. Quan, 13 years old at the time, had everyone rooting for him when he acted as the sidekick to the adventurous Indiana Jones in the film. 

After his huge success in the film, Quan was subsequently cast in “The Goonies” along with Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen, and Corey Feldman. After his big roles, Quan then received smaller and fewer roles in the entertainment industry. Since then, he stepped away from acting, which he addressed during his comeback, saying there weren’t many opportunities for an Asian actor in Hollywood. 

March 12, 2023, Quan made history as the first Asian actor who have won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 2023 Oscars. Since taking the role of Waymond Wang on “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” Quan has received a total of 110 nominations, and he managed to win 80 of those, including a Screen Actors Guild Award, Golden Globe Award, Independent Spirit Award, and over 50 Critics Choice Awards. 

Quan was overcome with emotions when he told his mother, who was 84 years old already, during his acceptance speech that he had won an Oscar.

“My journey started on a boat. I spent a year in a refugee camp. Somehow, I ended up here on Hollywood’s biggest stage. They say stories like this only happen in the movies. I cannot believe it’s happening to me. This is the American dream,” he tearfully said. 

On top of the Best Supporting Actor award, “Everything Everywhere All At Once” became the most awarded movie in cinema history as it won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture. 

It was actually a full-circle moment for Quan because the person who presented the Academy Award for Best Picture was none other than his former co-star, Ford. 

Just as Ford announced the winner, the two shared a triumphant reunion hug onstage. Months before the Oscars, the two also shared their reunion photo backstage at a Disney event; the photo has since gone viral on social media. 

Aside from Ford, Quan also celebrated with the 2023 Academy Award for Best Actor winner Brendan Fraser. Like Quan, Fraser received critical acclaim for his role in “The Whale.” 

While Fraser was interviewed backstage at the Oscars by Good Morning America, Quan surprised the former, jumping and giggling for both of their wins, shouting that they “did it.” Both of them famously starred in the 1992 film “Encino Man.” 

“Honestly, one of the most beautiful things of this season is seeing this man again and seeing him holding that,” Quan admitted. 

Since the joyous celebration of the two actors hit online, the internet has been obsessed with seeing both of them celebrate their successes. 

“When Ke screaming “We Did It” man how can you not root for these two. Both are stand up guys who are just happy to feel like they have accomplished something from all their hard work,” a user said. 

“I cried tears of joy for both their wins. Two men that hollywood had turned away from for so long had the best comebacks ever,” another echoed.
