Kathy Bates Claims She Had To Fight To Keep Her Gray Hair As She Was Told To Wear A Wig

An increasing number of older women are avoiding the temptation to dye their hair and are embracing their natural color instead. These brave women have become such an inspiration that the trend now continues for following generations.

Unfortunately, many people in the entertainment industry look down upon this trend. Women are often coerced to transform their appearance to meet the ideal standards of beauty instead of embracing their natural gifts.

Some brave actresses are refusing to succumb to this peer pressure by maintaining their natural colors without any apologies. These women are helping to revolutionize society's idea of beauty. Kathy Bates is one of these unapologetic women.

In an open and candid interview with fellow silver fox, CNN's Anderson Cooper, Kathy Bates reveals her fight to maintain her natural hair color. According to the 70-year-old actress, some people in Hollywood wanted to place a wig over her naturally gray hair. She confidently refused to cover up her beautiful hair.

Cooper acknowledged that the opposite is true for men, who are told to embrace their gray hair because it looks distinguished. For most women in Hollywood, they are told to dye their hair: an unfair double standard that Bates wants to stop.

Conformity is part of the reason that these unrealistic beauty standards have been able to continue. Too many people were willing to give in to the peer pressure to change their natural look. Kathy Bates is willing to put her foot down and say 'no'. She would rather embrace her true beauty than to conform to another person's standards of what looks good.

In fact, this isn't the first time that Bates has remained confident and unmoving on her principles. After a scare with cancer, the actress had to undergo a double mastectomy that removed both of her breasts.

Breast reconstruction is a common procedure following these invasive surgeries however Bates didn't feel the need to undergo another surgery. Although other people may have felt the need to reconstruct their breasts, Bates was perfectly happy with herself without the need to make any changes.
