Kathie Lee Gifford is a woman of many talents and positive attributes, and she has become one of the most successful women in the television industry. Her extraordinary talents spread across the board, from singing and songwriting, to acting and even to writing. Gifford is most known for her jobs as a television presenter on multiple morning shows, including “Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee” and “The Today Show.”
Gifford has had her fair share of success, love, and heartbreak, as she has been through quite a lot in her personal life over the long course of her incredible career. Despite all of the challenges she has faced, Gifford has kept a smile on her face and has continued to exceed people’s expectations in the entertainment industry. She lost her husband in 2015 but has been fortunate enough to find love once again. The memory of her late husband, Frank Gifford, continues to live on in their two children together, who have grown to be just like their famous parents.
The talk show host has two children, one son named Cody and one daughter named Cassidy, who are both absolutely gorgeous. Gifford’s daughter has grown into a bright young woman and is just as beautiful as her stunning mother. Her daughter has already found success in both her personal and professional life, as she has recently gotten married and has also starred in a handful of feature films. Most impressively, Gifford’s daughter has been blessed with her mother’s genetics and is Gifford’s striking lookalike. With good genes and a bundle of talents, Cassidy is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s brightest stars.
Early Life And Career
Gifford was born on Aug. 16, 1953, in Paris, France, to her American parents, Joan and Aaron Epstein. Joan was a singer, and Aaron was a musician and former US Navy Chief Petty Officer. The family was living in France at the time of Gifford’s birth since her father was stationed there, but they moved back to the United States and raised Gifford in Bowie, Maryland. The potential star first showcased some of her talents during high school when she participated in a folk group called Pennsylvania Next Right. Gifford was the singer for the band, which usually performed at their school assemblies.
Gifford continued on with her love of the arts, specifically music, and attended Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where she studied drama and music. The up-and-coming star made her first regular television appearances as a singer on the game show “Name That Tune” during the late 1970s.
In June 1985, Gifford hit her stride and landed a huge opportunity for her career. She replaced Ann Abernathy as co-host of “The Morning Show” with Regis Philbin. After joining the show, the title was changed to “Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee,” and Gifford quickly became a household name. Throughout the rest of the late 1980s and during the 1990s, people all across the nation were able to witness Gifford’s talents and pieces of her home life alongside her sportscaster husband and their two adorable children.
Both fans and critics alike fell in love with Gifford’s infectious personality and charming characteristics. She was nominated for eight consecutive years in a row for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host alongside her co-host Philbin. After an incredible run with the program, Gifford left “Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee” in July 2000.

Making Her Mark In Television
After taking some time away from network television, Gifford returned and joined the morning show, “The Today Show,” in March 2008. Gifford worked as a co-host alongside Hoda Kotb during the fourth hour of the show, with their own segment titled “Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda.” Viewers loved her, and the show’s ratings instantly skyrocketed. Just like her time on “Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee,” Gifford easily fit into her role as a co-host and brought some fun and light to the morning show for her incredibly long run with the program.
After 11 years with “The Today Show,” Gifford left the show in April 2019, with a sweet send-off from her fellow coworkers and even some of her family members. Almost like a final gift to the television host for all of her hard work, Gifford won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host in 2019 alongside Kotb.
In September 2020, Closer Weekly reported that Gifford was enjoying spending time with her children since leaving the NBC morning show, “The Today Show,” in December 2018. Gifford served as one of the most iconic hosts on the program for more than a decade. Her children have shown immense support for her over the years as Gifford has been through quite a lot of rough times in her personal life. They even honored their mom during Gifford’s final episode on the talk show in April 2019 by appearing on the show and sharing a sweet homemade video. They also expressed how proud they were of her.
More Work In The Television Industry
Since leaving “The Today Show,” Gifford has focused on pursuing a career in the film industry as an actress, director, and producer. She co-starred in “Then Came You” in 2018, which also starred Craig Ferguson. Also that year, she landed a role in the Hallmark Christmas movie “A Godwink Christmas: Meant for Love.” Gifford has done her best to partake in projects that fit her own personal beliefs and help show the struggles of being a widow since it seems to be underrepresented in Hollywood. She has also been honored with her own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Apr. 28, 2021, for all of her hard work and contributions to the television industry.
Aside from her time on television as a talk show host, Gifford has also been featured in a number of movies and television shows. Some of the projects she has been in include “Hot in Cleveland,” “The Mysteries of Laura,” “Sharknado 5: Global Swarming,” and an episode of the Disney show “The Suite Life on Deck.” Some of the star’s most recent work includes her role in the television series “The Baxters,” which was released in 2019, and the movie “Then Came You,” in which Gifford had a role in writing and acting.
Her talents have not just been showcased on the silver screen and small screen but also in musical theatre and the music industry. Gifford has released a few independent albums, including “Heart of a Woman” in 2000, which featured the lead single “Love Never Fails.”
A Peek Into Her Personal Life
Gifford has also lent her skills to another area in the entertainment industry. She has written two autobiographical books and a handful of children’s books. “Just When I Thought I’d Dropped My Last Egg: Life and Other Calamities” was released in 2010, and “The Rock, the Road and the Rabbi” was released in 2018.
It’s no surprise that many people have grown quite fond of Gifford over the many years she has graced television screens, and her kind-heartedness goes beyond her time at work. Gifford is a celebrity ambassador for the non-profit organization Childhelp, which is dedicated to preventing child abuse and helping those who have fallen victim to it. Gifford has made regular appearances at events and fundraisers to raise awareness about the prevention and treatment organization.
Gifford married Paul Johnson in 1976. He worked as a composer, arranger, producer, and publisher. The two made headlines and appeared on a few covers of Christian magazines as an example for what a happily married couple should look like. Unfortunately, their marriage was not as great as it appeared, and the two divorced in 1982.
Gifford’s heartache didn’t last long, and she shortly after met Frank Gifford, an American football player, and television sports commentator. The couple tied the knot on Oct. 18, 1986. This was Gifford’s second marriage and Frank’s third. Together, they had two children and a beautiful life together in their home in Greenwich, Connecticut. They even had the same birthday. After almost 30 years of marriage, Frank suddenly died from natural causes on Aug. 9, 2015, at the age of 84.
Finding Love Again
Grief-stricken, Gifford put her pain and heartache into her work and released the song “He Saw Jesus” in 2017. The song was written by Gifford and songwriter Brett James in dedication to Gifford’s late husband. All proceeds from the song’s sales went to Samaritan’s Purse, an international evangelical Christian humanitarian aid charity.
In April 2021, Gifford spoke with some of her former coworkers during an interview with TODAY and had some exciting news to share. “I’m in a really special relationship with somebody that is nice and fun and healthy, and so that’s good,” she revealed. She continued to tell anchors Savannah Guthrie, Al Roker, and Carson Daly all about her new romance.
“It’s just happy, and I don’t want to mess it up, and I probably already have by just even mentioning it,” Gifford continued. “To be in a place where you feel like every aspect of your life is good, that nothing’s missing, and that’s a beautiful place to be. I’m just so grateful.”
Gifford reconnected with her longtime former co-host Kotb as well as with Jenna Bush Hager to spill even more inside details about her ongoing relationship. “I’ve just found somebody that is so much fun to be with,” she gushed. “He is challenging to me. He’s the smartest person I’ve ever met, but he’s so funny.”
The successful woman couldn’t stop bragging about her newfound happiness and a new chance at love. “And we have a great time together, and so at this point in my life that’s exactly what I need and exactly what I want, you know? Different seasons of life -- we weren’t meant to know each other before, it’s right now,” Gifford said. “We don’t know what the future holds at all, but we’re having fun today.”
Meet Her Children
Gifford tragically lost her beloved husband in 2015, but the late American football player still lives on through their two children together, Cody and Cassidy. Cassidy, now 27 years old, is a stunning actress and is practically the spitting image of her mom. Just like his sister, Cody also has a striking resemblance to his parents.
Gifford’s son, Cody, was born on Mar. 22, 1990. He wanted to follow in his parents’ footsteps and pursue a career in Hollywood, specifically in the acting industry. He produced a movie called “American Patriot” at his college, Oxford University in Tennessee. According to Closer Weekly, he also studied and played football at the University of Southern California. Although he has not pursued acting much further, Cody is still living life to the fullest. He went on to found an art production company called Little Giant Productions. Cody also married his college sweetheart, Erika Brown, in September 2020, much to his mother’s approval. “God gave us a glorious day to celebrate this glorious couple,” Gifford said. “So grateful.”
Cassidy, Gifford’s daughter, also attended the University of Southern California, just like her older brother. After this, she worked on pursuing her own career in acting. Cassidy was born on Aug. 2, 1993, and has grown into a stunningly gorgeous young woman. Just like her mom, Cassidy is keen on leading a career in acting and has a natural talent for being on TV. She has starred in several TV shows and feature films, most notably in a horror film, “The Gallows,” in 2015. She also went on to star in a number of films, including “Time Trap” and “Twisted Sisters.”
A Look Into Cassidy Gifford’s Life
Cassidy is undeniably beautiful and has been using her beauty to her advantage, as she has also created a pretty successful modeling career for herself. Cassidy’s personal life seems to be going just as well as her professional career. She married her longtime boyfriend, Ben Wierda, in June 2020, just one year after they got engaged. Gifford initially shared her excitement and adoration for the couple when they first announced their engagement. “So thrilled to announce that my beautiful daughter, @cassidygiff, is engaged to a wonderful man, Ben @letsgetwierda,” she wrote in her Instagram post. “I am beyond the moon and stars. Thank you, LORD!”
Cassidy looks undeniably just like her mom. Especially when looking at photos of them together, the resemblance is simply uncanny. Gifford must have passed down some seriously good genes to her daughter, seeing as she won the title of one of the 18 Women You’ll Fall In Love With This Summer in 2015 by Esquire.
Kathie Lee Gifford has led quite the successful life, with a long and stable career, a pure heart, and a balance between personal life and professional life. Her two children have grown up to be just like her, as they have both showcased a handful of their own individual talents and kindness, as well as a striking resemblance to both Gifford and her late husband. Cassidy herself has certainly followed in her mother’s footsteps, as she has taken an interest in acting, and even looks just like her beautiful mother.
