The Duchess of Cambridge's shoe collection is one that many people likely envy, but one thing perhaps not widely known about Kate Middleton's shoe wardrobe is that she wears shoes in two different sizes, and sometimes even other half sizes. Apparently this practice is not just a royal one, but rather something common among celebrities and icons alike to avoid blisters and maximize comfort.

According to The Sun, Kate Middleton wears multiple different shoe sizes in order to avoid blisters. Events such as long public engagements, royal gatherings, and red carpets call for a solution to sore feet. The Duchess of Cambridge has used different shoe sizing to solve that problem.

This trick isn't just exclusive to the Duchess of Cambridge, as other royal figures have been known to use it as well. Fashion expert Harriet Davey told The Sun:

"Celebs often go a size up, or even two, in the shoe department when they're at an event or on the red carpet and it's for one reason we can all relate to—to avoid blisters. There's nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes (we've all been there on a night out)."

Kate Middleton has been seen sporting all sorts of gorgeous designer shoes, but the one thing they all have in common is that they are often in different sizes. Kate has been seen wearing a range of shoes as small as 38, or a U.S. 7.5 to as large as a 39, or a U.S. 8.5.

These nude L.K. Bennett pumps are a size EU 38, which is approximately a US 7.5 size shoe. It seems that the size greatly depends on the type and brand of shoe. In L.K. Bennett's Agata sandals, Kate has been seen wearing an EU 39 (U.S. 8.5).

When switching between a 7.5 and 8.5 shoe isn't enough for her comfort, the Duchess of Cambridge has also been seen to opt for a size EU 38.5, or U.S. size 8, in order to get the fit just right. One can imagine that factors such as humidity and foot swelling also cause the shoe size to vary along with shoe style and event duration.

Harriet Davey also told The Sun that there are other tricks celebs and royals use to curb the foot pain problem. She said:

"A trick of the trade is to stuff the toe with padding—like tissue or cotton wool—and this can be taken out once they feel like they need a bit more room in their shoes."
