Early 2024 saw the British royal family rocked by news of severe health issues. Buckingham Palace announced on Jan. 17, 2024, that King Charles III was scheduled to undergo hospital treatment the following week for an enlarged prostate. The next day, his wife, Queen Camilla, said Charles was feeling “fine” and “looking forward to getting back to work.”

Months later, the world was shaken when Kate Middleton revealed that she was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing preventive chemotherapy. News of Charles and Kate’s health debacle led to an outpouring of well wishes and support from their supporters worldwide.

It was not until June 15, 2024, that she gave a significant health update to the public by releasing a photo of herself in a forest and a message of reassurance. That same month, Kate also appeared for the first time in months at the 2024 Trooping the Colour parade

Everyone was just as thrilled to see Kate and her daughter, Princess Charlotte, at the 2024 Wimbledon, a month after her Trooping the Colour appearance. This marked one of Kate’s first informal public appearances after a long while. Kate has since assured the public that she’s getting better as she undergoes her treatment plan for her cancer diagnosis.

Prince William even stepped up in the absence of his wife and his father, King Charles, who was also diagnosed with cancer. After months of preventive chemotherapy, Kate revealed her health status to many people’s delight. Keep reading to learn more about Kate’s recent health update.

On Sept. 9, 2024, the official social media accounts of The Kensington Palace shared a video message of Kate addressed to the people.

“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” Kate said in the video.

According to the now-Princess of Wales, the last nine months of her treatment have been “incredibly tough” for her family.

“The cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone, especially those closest to you. With humility, it also brings you face to face with your own vulnerabilities in a way you have never considered before, and with that, a new perspective on everything,” she added.

According to Kate, the time that has passed had reminded her and Prince William to reflect and be “grateful” for the “simple yet important things in life” – “Of simply loving and being loved.”

“Doing what I can to stay cancer free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” Kate declared. “I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.”

Kate then shared that she is “grateful” for the public's outpouring of support and that she has “drawn great strength” from it.

“Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling. To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright, Kate concluded.
