Kate Hudson Showered Her ‘Magnificent’ Mother Goldie Hawn With Emotional Birthday Greeting For Her 78th

Actress Kate Hudson is perhaps best known for her roles as the enigmatic Penny Lane in "Almost Famous" and stubborn Andie Anderson in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." However, before experiencing commercial success, Hudson was already a recognizable face. As the daughter of actress Goldie Hawn and musician Bill Hudson – who was actually raised by action figure actor-turned-mom's-boyfriend Kurt Russell – she grew up in the relative limelight. Hudson would always draw comparisons to her star-studded parents, even though she crafted her own path through Hollywood.

Hudson made her film debut in 1998 with the drama "Desert Blue," followed by plenty of supporting roles in the following years. It wasn't long before she began landing roles that helped make her the leading actress she is today, including films such as "You, Me and Dupree," "Fool's Gold," and "Bride Wars." In November 2023, Hudson went to Instagram and penned an emotional message to her mother, celebrating her 78th Birthday. Hudson is clearly inspired by her famous mom, Hawn. In March 2022, in conjunction with Stuart Weitzman's "Live Every Moment" campaign in which she appeared with Hawn, Hudson said in a statement, as reported by Us Weekly: 

"My mom has always been an inspiration to me and, in so many ways, the foundation for my values. There's no doubt that I inherited her love for life and all of its experiences big and small."

Hudson's children are not only close to Hawn and Russell but to her brother Oliver's children as well. He sang praises for his mother and Russell to Us Weekly in April 2021, saying, "My parents are amazing grandparents. We're a very tight family. We all live very close to each other. … They're amazing people, amazing grandparents, amazing parents."

Their closeness now may boil down to the way they were raised, which Hudson described to CNBC in 2021 as such:

"My personality profile is perfect for an overachiever based on my family of origin. We grew up privileged, but our parents made sure we understood it. It was like, 'Hey kids, none of this belongs to you. You didn't earn any of this. You were just born into it.' So at a really young age, our parents were all about work ethic."

While Hudson has praised Hawn for the way she paved her own way in the entertainment business, she told E! News in September 2022 that she isn't planning on imitating Hawn's career.

"Contrary to how I guess it seems from the outside in, for me, our family is much more focused on emulating who we are as people," the actress said. "Emulating the good and maybe not necessarily wanting to carry on some of the challenges, like any child growing up in the world."

Hudson added to the outlet that even if she wanted to copy her mother, there would be no way to do it. "There's no emulating mama's career. She's an original. She's an icon. It's a different generation," Hudson gushed. 

However, Hudson admitted there were other areas of Hawn's life that she was more than happy to try to mirror.

"I do really like to emulate the things she brought to her career and to us as kids, and how she balanced that out," Kate added to E! News. "I think that's important."

On Nov. 21, 2022, Hudson went to Instagram to share even more kind words about her amazing mom celebrating Hawn’s birthday and who she is as a person. She wrote in the caption:

“So lucky I get to celebrate my beautiful mother everyday BUT TODAY Nov 21 was the day she was born! I wonder if God knew what had been concocted in the stars to create this beaming light? I have a feeling it was by no accident that she shares this otherworldly lust for life and joyous spirit.”

Hudson shared that her mom has “challenged the toughest minds, stood tall for her worth, she blazed trails for us to walk a little easier through and cut a lot of those weeds that love to scratch at women’s ankles trying to get us to turn back.”

She continued:

“My mothers life is a treasure trove of wisdom that I feel deeply honored to know intimately. Most importantly, she always wanted and continues to aspire to be the best mother and grandmother. And well…let’s just say, she’s winning at that 🏆☺️ HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMA G! You’re my everything ❤️🎂❤️ @goldiehawn.”

On her mother’s 78th birthday on Nov. 21, 2023, Hudson never forgot to greet her on Instagram. 

“A woman who is easy to celebrate! Happiest Birthday to the most fun, beautiful, and inspiring mother ✨,” she greeted the legendary actress. 

Hudson posted a video slideshow of her mother’s kooky side, some of her gorgeous solo photos, and their snaps together. In the first video, Hawn can be seen holding a multicolor umbrella. The ever-sunny Hawn can also be seen dancing on a boat like no one’s looking as Hudson was cheering for her to dance more. She also shared some photos of them together with her daughter, pictures on the beach, during their dinner and lunch dates, among many others. 

“We love you big time Gogo 🎉🎂🥳 Join me in using one word to describe what Gogo means to you and shout out a big HBD 🎁 My word for you today @goldiehawn is 💫MAGNIFICENT💫,” she further wrote. 

Fans of Hawn and Hudson have also taken over the comment section sharing their birthday message to the famed celebrant. 

“What a blessed life!!! We all wish we had Goldie in our lives!!!” a fan said while another commented: “She exudes nothing but love! It’s in her eyes and in her smile. You can feel it through any screen you watch her on in any movie or interview and in this post. Happiest of birthdays miss @goldiehawn.” 

“Your mom seems like that fun cool aunt who would sneak you wine coolers.. 😍😍😍,” someone pointed out. 

Hawn and Hudson’s celebrity friends did not miss the opportunity to shower the former with some birthday love.
