If someone asked you to name the most lovable animal you can think of, "kangaroo" probably wouldn't be the first animal on your mind. But as you're about to see, these intelligent marsupials are some of the most affectionate creatures in the animal kingdom.

One orphan baby kangaroo named Indi, who was residing at The Kangaroo Sanctuary, in Alice Springs, Australia, was filmed in 2015 hugging her rescuer's hands – and she's got us tearing up!

Be sure to reach the end of this article to see the full video :-)

Indi was orphaned at a young age. In the wild, that usually means certain death for baby mammals. Luckily, this kangaroo was rescued and taken to The Kangaroo Sanctuary, where rescuers made sure to give her the best care possible.

The Kangaroo Sanctuary of Alice Springs has a simple mission: "Animals come first." And when you watch this video, it's clear that they're serious about their commitment. This sanctuary rescues baby kangaroos who have been abandoned and nurses them back to health. If possible, they release them back into the wild when they're older; if not, they get to live out their lives in the 188-acre sanctuary that has everything a kangaroo could want.

Plus, people just like you can donate and sponsor a kangaroo! It's a great way to help this sanctuary continue their important work.

An affectionate kangaroo like no other

Like most mammals, kangaroos tend to be smart, affectionate creatures. But Indi is particularly special. When she grabs hold of the handler's arm, she doesn't want to let go!

The video starts with the handler reaching toward Indi. She eagerly reaches back like she's awaiting a hug. He pets and scratches Indi and she immediately latches on to his hand. She rubs her face against his hand like an affectionate cat. The more the handler pets her, the more she clings to his hand.

You've never seen a mammal look so happy and content. At the end of the video, she relaxes a little and stops struggling, as if she's realized that the handler isn't going to stop giving her affection.

She looks as young and innocent as a baby kangaroo being handled by her mother. Unfortunately, her mother's not around, but Indi has the next best thing--a loving human handler who's committed to taking care of her.

The video quickly went viral

Today, Indi's no longer a baby--she's a full-grown kangaroo who might be raising babies of her own. We don't know if she still lives in the sanctuary or if she was released into the wild. But either way, we hope this adorable kangaroo is living a full, happy life.

In the wild, kangaroos can live to be over 20 years old. When they're first born, they're so tiny that they can fit in the palm of your hand. They live inside their mother's pouch for a few months until they're big enough to emerge and start living in the wild. We don't know why poor Indi was orphaned, but it's tragic that she was separated from her mother at such a young age.

Kangaroos really are incredible parents, carrying their offspring in their pouch for months at a time. Indi might not have her mother, but at least she can enjoy love and affection from her human handlers.
